The set-up

The Belleville Senators will get things going in 2020 with a home contest against the Rochester Americans.

The Senators (19-12-1-1) secured a point on New Year's Eve after a wild comeback against Laval that left the Sens sitting in fourth place in the North Division. Belleville's 122 goals are tied for the second most in the AHL this season.

Rochester (20-8-2-2) continues to lead the North Division due to its win percentage but sit tied with Utica on 44 points.

Tonight's contest with see two of the Top 10 power play units in the league square off. The Sens sit sixth at 19.3% while the Amerks are 10th best at 17.2%.

Roster notes

It seemed inevitable and was just a matter of when, but Belleville finally lost Rudolfs Balcers to Ottawa on New Year's Day. The Sens did get back JC Beaudin who was reassigned Wednesday too.

Forward Andrew Sturtz was also traded to Montreal Thursday night.

No official word from Troy Mann, but expect Joey Daccord to start for the Senators.

Jordan Szwarz is out for Belleville although defenceman Stuart Percy is close to a return after a long injury layoff.

Previous history

Tonight is just the second meeting of the season between the two sides. Rochester won their first meeting on Dec. 27 on a goal with two seconds left in regulation. Belleville is 7-5-1-0 all-time against the Amerks.

Who to watch

Sens rookie Josh Norris had a pair of goals Tuesday to take him to 16 on the year. His 29 points are the second most among all AHL rookies.

Jean-Sebastien Dea leads Rochester in scoring this year with 10 goals and 21 points and had 30 career NHL games to his name.
