
Monsters Upended in Binghamton, 5-2

Cleveland Monsters News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The AHL's Cleveland Monsters were defeated by the Binghamton Devils on Friday at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena by a final score of 5-2. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 17-16-1-2 and with 37 points, currently occupy seventh place in the AHL's North Division standings.
In the opening period, the Devils registered even-strength goals from Egor Sharangovich at 1:16, Brandon Gignac at 15:09 and Josh Jacobs at 16:32 to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. In the second, a five-on-five Mikhail Maltsev tally at 4:45 made it 4-0 Devils before Adam Clendening and Anton Karlsson combined to set up an even-strength Calvin Thurkauf marker at 6:04 sending the Monsters into the second intermission trailing by a 4-1 margin. In the final frame, Gignac notched his second of the game on the power-play at 9:35 before Sam Vingeault established the game's final score of 5-2 with an even-strength deflection from Clendening and Thurkauf at 12:19.
Cleveland goaltender Veini Vehvilainen stopped 27 pucks in defeat while Binghamton's Cory Schneider made 29 saves in victory.
