The Newfoundland Growlers dropped a tight 3-1 contest to the Adirondack Thunder on New Years Eve at the Cool Insuring Arena.

Grant Cruikshank opened the scoring for Newfoundland just 6:34 into the game to give the Growlers a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Patrick Grasso and Tristan Thompson scored six minutes apart for Adirondack in the middle frame to put the Thunder ahead 2-1 going into the third.

Erik Middendorf iced it with an empty netter five seconds before the final buzzer as the Thunder held on for a 3-1 victory.

Newfoundland head home to host the Utah Grizzlies Jan. 5-7.
