Scoring Frenzy Earns Brown League Honor
January 27, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce that veteran forward Jim Brown has been named the United Hockey League's Sher-Wood Player of the Week for the week of January 20th-26th.
In two games last week, Brown was responsible for 74.1% of the K-Wings goals, as the veteran forward netted 5 goals, including his second hat trick of the season versus Missouri last Friday night.
"Well it's an honor to be named Player of the Week, I would rather have the victories," said Jim Brown. "It was one of those weeks where everything seem to be clicking, but the most important thing for us (K-Wings) is just to get victories."
Last week the K-Wings went 1-1-0, including a 3-1 victory over the top team in the UHL, the Missouri River Otters. In that game, Brown scored two shorthanded goals, and added an empty netter to record the natural hat trick.
"Jim has had a scoring touch," said General Manager/Head Coach Paul Pickard. "We need Jim to continue his scoring ways, as well as others that are capable of doing the same, if we are going to make the playoffs." Brown will carry a 3 game scoring streak into Wednesday night's home game against the Fort Wayne Komets. Face-off of time from Wings Stadium will be at 7:00 PM. The game will coincide with Family Fun Pack Night, where K-Wings fans can buy four tickets, 4 Cokes, and 4 hotdogs for just $28.
Tickets for the K-Wings game versus the Komets, as well as all K-Wings home games are available at the Wings Stadium Box Office, or by calling (269) 345-5101.
The naming of Brown UHL Player of the Week is the second such award a K-Wings player has received this season. Goaltender Chad Alban was named Goaltender of the Week for the week of December 2nd-8th.
For more information about Jim Brown being named the UHL Sherwood Player of the Week contact Director of Public Relations/Broadcaster Mike Modugno, at (269) 349-9772.
