Hartlieb Called Up To AHL

RiverBlades' forward Ernie Hartlieb was called up to the American Hockey League (AHL) on Monday, and will the join the Worcester (Mass.) IceCats.

Hartlieb, 23, a native of Sterling Heights, Mich., was having a career year for the RiverBlades, with 20 goals and 33 assists for 53 points. He had 6 power-play goals, one short-handed goal, and 3 game-winners while playing in all 45 of Arkansas' games.

"I'm really excited to get the opportunity to move to a higher level," Hartlieb said. "I hope I can contribute to Worcester, and at the same time, prove I belong in the AHL."

The 6-1, 210-pounder was in his second season with the RiverBlades, following four successful years at Miami University (Ohio). Acquired from the Dayton Bombers in 2001, Ernie was named RiverBlades' Rookie of the Year in 2001-2002, scoring 34 points despite playing extended time on defense.

In the offseason, Hartlieb captained Team USA to a fifth place finish at the World In-Line Hockey Championships held in Germany.

The Worcester IceCats are the AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues. Thus far, the Cats have a record of 19-18-7-3 with 48 points, 4th in the Eastern Conference's North Division.

Hartlieb will join the IceCats for their games on Wednesday against Portland, Friday at Bridgeport, and Saturday against Binghamton.
