This is the second meeting of the season between these two teams. Greensboro edged the Rays 2-1 in a shoot out on November 29. Goaltenders Daniel Berthiaume and Kirk Daubenspeck of the Stingrays dueled in the last game, with Berthiaume making 34 stops for the Generals and Daubenspeck making 47 saves for the Rays.

South Carolina is 5-0 this season against Columbus with four of the games decided by one goal, and three of the games going into extra time. Mike Jickling has five goals and three assists against Columbus to pace the Stingrays with eight points.

Last Week in Review:

After the All-Star Break, the South Carolina Stingrays played just one game last week and handled the Columbus Cottonmouths for the fifth time this season with a 4-2 victory. Mike Jickling had a pair of goals in the game and Joel Irving and Brent Henley each returned to the lineup with goals in the victory.

Brumby Acquired; Weasler Waived:

South Carolina Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons picked up goaltender David Brumby, for cash, in a trade with the Augusta Lynx today. The Netminder split last season between Columbus and Pee Dee. Brumby is in his seventh professional season. He was a 1993 draft pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Rookie goaltender Dean Weasler was waived today to make room for Brumby.

"We needed to pick up a goaltender with a proven track record to help us down the stretch," Commented Fitzsimmons. "David has shown that he can win in this league and will challenge Kirk for playing time.

Weasler was let go after posting a 1-4 record in seven games with a 4.00 GAA.

"Dean needs to get himself into a situation where he can play regularly and get some quality experience," added Fitzsimmons. "We will do all we can to help him find a place to play.

Team Notes:

The Stingrays have now won three out of their last four games including two of three on the road. The team is 2-1 on the first three games of a seven game road swing, its' longest of the season. The Rays find themselves in fourth place two points behind the Florida Everblades. The Stingrays power play has steadily improved all season and is up to sixth in the league, clicking at 22%. The team has scored ten power play goals in its last five games. The penalty kill is ranked 16th with a percentage of 81.6%. The Rays have 12 wins at home and on the road. They sit at 12-8-1 at home and 12-8-2 on the road. South Carolina is 20-11-2 against the Southeast.

Players:

Rod Taylor is tied with Darryl Noren at 685 career points, which is the most ever in the ECHL. He has been tied with Noren for two games. Dave Seitz is on a hot streak; he has a five game point streak and has 16 points on four goals and 12 assists in his last ten games. Adam Calder and Mike Jickling each have six goals in their last ten games. Calder has 15 points in his last ten games. Dave Seitz now leads the team in points with 49 on 14 goals and 35 assists. He also leads the team in plus minus, at plus ten. Mike Jickling leads the team in goals with 21.
