Augusta Lynx News Release


The Augusta Lynx snapped a ten game road losing streak by winning two in a row in Columbia and Columbus. They improved their record to 15-25-3 with 33 points, remaining seventh in the Southeastern Division, three points behind sixth place Columbus.

The Lynx defeated the Columbia Inferno by a score of 7-1 on Friday, January 24 in Columbia. This was the Lynx first win at the Carolina Coliseum this season. Ten different Lynx players got on the score sheet. The Lynx were 2-5 on the power play while the Inferno went 1-3. Lynx goalie Colin Zulianello picked up his first win since returning from Springfield. Zulianello made thirty-five saves en route to the win. The Lynx traveled to Columbus Saturday, January 25 defeating the Cottonmouths 4-2. Andrew Williamson had his third two-goal game of the year. Williamson now leads the Lynx with thirty-nine points, sixteen coming in his last ten games from nine goals and seven assists. Zulianello picked up the win, improving his record 5-7-1.

The Lynx begin a week-long road trip up North with a game in Johnstown, PA on Wednesday, January 29. The Lynx franchise is 7-5-3 all-time against the Chiefs. This will be the first meeting in Lynx team history. Johnstown is in a three-way tie for last in the Northwest Division. The Chiefs' goaltender Peter Aubry is seventeenth in the league with a record of 12-14-6. Johnstown's power play unit ranks thirteenth in the league compared to Augusta's ranking of twenty-six. The penalty-killing unit for the Chiefs ranks better at nine, but with only one short hander so far at home. Forward J.F. Boutin leads the Chiefs with fifteen goals and thirty-two assists for forty-seven points. Seventeen of his points have come in the last ten games. This is the one and only meeting between the two teams this season.

Augusta continues the road trip traveling to Wheeling, WV on Friday, January 31. The Nailers are also part of the three-way tie for last in the Northwest Division. Wheeling's record stands at 18-25-3, with a home record of 10-13-2. The Nailers have won their last two outings. Forward Zenon Konopka leads the Nailers with thirty-nine points from twelve goals and twenty-seven assists. Konopka is one of the league's leading rookie scorers. The Lynx have an all-time record of 4-11-4 versus Wheeling. Wheeling's power play unit ranks eighteenth in the league with thirty-seven power play goals. The penalty-killing unit ranks just above the Lynx at twenty-fourth.

The Lynx will continue the road trip traveling to Cincinnati to take on the third place Cyclones Saturday, February 1. Cincinnati's record stands at 21-17-3 for forty-five points. The Cyclones' home record is 12-7-3. They are 0-5-1 in their last six outings. Cincinnati's Ryan Gaucher is the league's leading defensman scorer with forty-nine points from thirteen goals and thirty-six assists. Cincinnati boasts the league's best power play unit with sixty-one power play goals, forty-two at home.

The Lexington Men-o-War will host the Lynx on Sunday, February 2 for the only meeting between the two teams this season. Lexington's record is 20-18-5, tied for third in the Northwest Division. Men-o-War goalie Mike Smith is fourth in the league with a GAA of 2.56 and a save percentage of 0.910. Lexington is averaging 2.56 goals for per game, next to last in the league.

Player of the Week: Williamson tallied four points from three goals and one assist. He ended the week with a plus four rating.

Goalie of the Week: Zulianello made seventy-one saves allowing only three goals in two games. His save percentage for the week stands at 0.959.

Stat of the Week: Lance Galbraith's 488 penalty minutes ranks him second most penalty minutes in franchise history. Another twelve penalty minutes will make him the second to accumulate 500 penalty minutes in a Lynx uniform. Dan Kopec holds the current Lynx record with 580 minutes.

Saturday, February 1: The Lynx continue their week-long trip in Cincinnati, OH. The Cyclones will host the Lynx at the U.S. Bank Arena at 7:05 pm.
Sunday, February 2: The Lynx wrap up the seven game road swing playing the Lexington Men-o-War at Rupp Arena. Game time is 6:00 pm.
