Augusta Lynx News Release

CHARLOTTE, NC - Mike Brodeur made 41 saves as the Lynx ended their losing skid at eight games with a 2-1 shoot out victory over the Charlotte Checkers at Time Warner Cable Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Charlotte out shot the Lynx in the opening period 21-8 but Mike Brodeur was perfect, stopping all 21 shots and the game was scoreless after 20 minutes.

Charlotte's first shot in the second period found a way past Brodeur as Ryan Murphy rifled one for his second goal of the season to give the Checkers a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds into the middle frame.

In the third, Scott Thauwald, who had two goals in the last win for the Lynx over the Checkers, beat Jeff Jakaitis on a 2 on 1 to tie the game at one. Patrick Bordeleau and Cody Blanshan had assists on the tying goal. Mike Brodeur was spectacular as he made some key saves down the stretch on a late Charlotte power play which carried into over time. Both teams were held scoreless in the extra session sending the game into a shoot out.

The first shooter, Brian Ihnacak scored for the Lynx and then Matt Auffrey followed in the third round with a goal, giving Augusta a 2-0 lead after three rounds. Jeff Miles would score for Charlotte but Brodeur stoned Tomas Zaborsky in the final round to give the Lynx the victory.

Charlotte out shot the Lynx 42-18. Augusta finished 0 for 2 on the power play while the Checkers were held to 0 for 5.
