Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors battled after an early deficit, but the Idaho Steelheads hung on for a 4-3 win before 8,929 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday night. The 10th annual Teddy Bear Toss drew a standing-room-only crowd, the second-largest in team history, and propelled the all-time total for collected stuffed animals over 50,000.
Idaho (10-7-2, 22pts) got on the board first in the game, when F Bryan McGregor scored at 5:46 of the opening period. The fans, clutching their teddy bears anxiously since walking through the turnstiles, got a chance to let them fly at 14:28 of the first when the Condors (6-9-3, 15pts) got on the board. F Dale Reinhardt potted his first of the season, burying a shorthanded breakaway tally to commence the launching.
When play resumed, Idaho added two tallies on the power play to take a 3-1 lead, but the Condors were not phased. F Tylor Michel connected with a wrist shot from just inside the blueline, beating former Condors G Rejean Beauchemin to cut the deficit to just one. It was the first career goal for Michel.
The teams exchanged power play tallies in the second period, with Idaho extending the lead back to two at 8:40, when F Ben Nelson scored his second of the game. F Andrew Ianiero pulled Bakersfield back within a goal at 16:22, pounding home his second of the season to make it 4-3 after two stanzas.
Neither team found an offensive rhythm in the third period, as they combined for just 10 shots in the frame, and Idaho held on for the one-goal win. G Yutaka Fukufuji finished with 19 saves on 23 shots in his season debut.
