Charlotte Checkers News Release
Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers lost in a shootout to the Augusta Lynx by a score of 2-1 in a shootout at Time Warner Cable Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Checkers threw 21 shots on goal at Lynx goaltender Mike Brodeur in the first period but were unable to get anything past him. During the second stanza, Ryan Murphy finally broke the scoreless affair as he rifled a shot over the blocker of Brodeur just 24 seconds into the period putting up the Checkers 1-0 after forty minutes.
The Lynx would even the game on a two-on-one break in the third period when Augusta forward Scott Thauwald took a nice pass from Patrick Bordeleau and slid the puck past Checkers goalie Jeff Jakaitis at 4:10. Regulation ended at a 1-1 standstill and so did the overtime session.
In the shootout, the Lynx received goals from Brian Ihnacak and Matt Auffrey while only Jeff miles scored for the Checkers as Augusta skated away with a 2-1 lead.
