Reign Supreme In Win Over Aces

November 30, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - Geoff Walker scored twice as Ontario built a 3-0 lead, then hung on to nip Alaska, 3-2, in front of 4,260 Sunday evening at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

The Aces have lost back-to-back game for the first time all season, but with an overall record of 12-5-1, still lead second-place Victoria by one point in the West Division. The Reign have won three straight games and are 7-2-2 in one-goal contests this season.

Dusty Collins scored off the rush against Alaska starter Jean-Philippe Lamoureux just 3:29 into the game. Collins set up Walker for the first of his two goals at 2:51 of the second period, and after being awarded a penalty shot, Walker beat Lamoureux again with a wrist shot just inside the right post with 9:34 left in the middle frame. The Aces finally got on the board with six seconds left in the period when Lance Galbraith tipped home a Bryan Miller one-timer in a five-on-three situation for his first goal in an Alaska sweater.

Alaska owned a territorial advantage for much of the third period, but did not score until Colin Hemingway buried a rebound with 2:10 left in regulation, his team-leading 12th goal of the season. John Murray, like Lamoureux a rookie, kept the Aces at bay for the rest of the game, however, finishing with 21 saves for his third straight victory between the pipes. Alaska erased all eight chances for the league's best power play, while converting two of its five chances, but still came up short in the first ever meeting between the two clubs.

Defenseman T.J. Fast joined the Aces from their AHL affiliate in Peoria for Sunday's game, finishing -1. Fellow blue-liner Derick Martin will play for Alaska the first time this season tomorrow night, having been returned on loan from the Providence Bruins (AHL), where he went -4 with 12 PIM in 14 games.

The Aces and the Reign (10-6-2) meet again tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. ADT. The contest will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off. Alaska's next home game is scheduled for Wednesday against Bakersfield, leading into Military Appreciation Weekend on Friday and Saturday, December 5-6. All three games at Sullivan Arena will start at 7:15 p.m.
