Lawson Snags Fourth Goaltender of the Week Award

Fort Wayne, IN --- The UHL announced today that Komet goalie Tom Lawson has been named the league's Goaltender of the Week for week ending Jan. 26, 2003. Lawson started all 3 Komet games during the week earning victories in each game for a 3-game win streak and has been unbeaten in regulation 5 straight starts.

Lawson backstopped the Komets to a 5-2 win at Rockford Wednesday, Jan. 22 making 24 saves on 26 IceHog shots. The Whitby, Ontario native also earned back-to-back wins against the visiting Elmira Jackals. Lawson stopped 27 of 28 shots Friday, Jan. 24 and made 21 saves on 23 shots for his 3rd straight win Saturday, Jan. 25.

For the week Lawson was 3-0-0, allowed 5 goals for a 1.67 goals against average and stopped 72 of 77 shots for a .935 save percentage.

Lawson leads UHL goalies with a 1.91 goals against average, 5 shutouts, and a .923 save percentage in 34 games played.

It's the 4th time this season Lawson has captured the weekly award. Lawson also received the award for weeks ending Nov. 3, Nov. 10 and Dec. 29. The rookie netminder has also been the UHL's Goaltender of the Month for November and December. So far in January Lawson has a record of 5-3-2, 2.43 goals against average, 1 shutout, has made 219 saves on 242 shots for a .905 save percentage in 10 games played.
