Fresno Falcons News Release

The Fresno Falcons spent last week up in Anchorage for a three-game set against the Aces and came away with three victories, all accomplished in starkly different fashion.

Last Wednesday's 4-2 win featured the Mike Barrie show, as the Falcons centerman scored all four goals for the club. It marked the sixth time in club history a player tallied four goals in a single game.

Friday's 3-2 victory was a battle of attrition. Fresno began the game with just 14 healthy skaters and proceeded to lose two players to injury and another two to a pair of game misconducts by early in the third period. Those that remained were helped to victory by Cory Murphy's game-winning goal with 6:05 to play and 30 saves from goaltender Mark Gowan.

Despite being low in numbers again on Saturday night, the Falcons cruised to a 9-2 win that marked the team's seventh consecutive victory against the Aces. The nine goals are the most scored by any team in the league this season, and the seven-goal margin is also a league-high for the year.

The three victories give the Falcons four straight wins overall heading into this week, including a season-high seven in a row on the road. Fresno is 22-13-5 with 49 points, two points behind the second-place San Diego Gulls and just one point back of the third-place Bakersfield Condors.

PORTER MAKES MORE FALCONS HISTORY

Reigning Taylor Cup Playoff MVP Kris Porter accomplished a first on Saturday night as he became the only Falcon ever to record six points in a game with six assists. Four of his assists found the stick of captain Jason Weaver, whose four goals and one assist helped him to the 12th five-point performance in Falcons history. Weaver and Barrie's four-goal games last week along with a four-goal game from Porter earlier in the season are all tied as the most prolific goal scoring games of the season across the league.

ICE DOGS COME CALLING

Fresno gets to spend the next couple of weeks at home as the Long Beach Ice Dogs visit Selland Arena three times this week to kick off a six-game home stand. The Falcons will try to keep their unblemished 6-0-0 mark against Long Beach intact beginning Tuesday night at 7 p.m. with a Carl's Jr. Two for Tuesday. The teams then battle on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Falcons beanie puck on Friday and a Greg Spenrath kids t-shirt jersey on Saturday. Tickets for all three games are still available at the Selland box office, all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.ticketmaster.com.

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

The Falcons will practice tomorrow at 10 a.m. at Selland Arena. Practice will then shift to Gateway Ice Center on both Wednesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by sessions back at Selland on both Friday and Saturday at 10 a.m.
