Bakersfield Condors News Release
Boise, Idaho - Dampy Brar scored twice and added an assist as the Idaho Steelheads handed the Condors a 3-2 loss on Monday night in front of 4,248 fans at the Bank of America Center.
The Condors were down to just 14 skaters as Jamie Cooke, J.J. Wrobel and Paul Willett all sat this one out. Defenseman David Bell played at center for night.
The Steelheads took the lead in the first period with a power play tally at 7:12. Dampy Brar found the back of the net while all alone in the slot, and buried it for his third of the season. The first period ended 1-0 in favor of Idaho, with the Steelheads also owning an 8-6 lead in shots on goal. Despite the fact that just two penalties were called, it was a chippy opening frame from Idaho.
The Condors tied the game during the second period, as Jason Ralph netted his 17th goal of the season. He banged in a rebound of Paul Rosebush's shot from the right wing boards while on the power play. Jason Jackman picked up the second assist on the tally. Another Idaho power play led the second goal of the game for Brar. Ben Keup gained the Condors end down the left wing boards, and from behind the goal line, sent a pass in front to Brar, who made no mistake.
In the third, the Steelheads extended the led when A.J. Begg lifted home a backhander that deflected off of netminder Kevin St. Pierre at the 8:04 mark to make it 3-1 Idaho. It was the only even strength goal of the game. The Condors made it interesting on a late power play. Seconds after a shot fluttered over the Idaho net, Shawn Byram tucked in a wraparound tally to bring the Condors within a goal. With St. Pierre pulled, the Condors tried valiantly to tie the game, but to no avail. The Steelheads took the 3-2 win.
The Condors and Steelheads will battle again on Wednesday night from Boise, for a 6:05 (PST) start. They return home to host the Anchorage Aces in a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. Friday night's game features long sleeve T-shirt giveaway for the first 2,000 fans, sponsored by KUZZ 107 and 3-Way Chevrolet. On Saturday night, the Raiderettes are in town, fresh off their Super Bowl performance, sponsored by B-Rock 99.
