Men O\' War Move into Tie for Third in Northwest

Lexington, KY-The Men O' War went 1-1 on the weekend, splitting a pair of games against two of the ECHL's best squads. On Friday, the Men came back to tie the Peoria Rivermen before winning the game in a shootout. Saturday' s match with Toledo was a high-scoring affair that featured a total of nine goals and 18 power plays. The Storm were able to prevail 5-4. The win over Peoria tied the MOW with the Cincinnati Cyclones for third place in the ECHL 's Northwest Division. This week, the Men travel to Peoria for a Tuesday re-match with the R-Men. On Wednesday, the MOW head to Cincinnati for a game against the Cyclones. This weekend, the Men play a sandwich of home games. The Men will be at Rupp Arena on Friday (vs. Cincinnati ) and Sunday (vs. the Augusta Lynx). In between, the MOW make a visit to Toledo to take on the division-leading Toledo Storm.

Friday, January 24th –Peoria 1 at Lexington 2 SO

After trailing 1-0 for most of the first two periods, the Men tied the game on an early third period goal by Fraser Clair. Kevin Knopp and Ryan Fultz each scored clutch shootout goals for the win as Dan Murphy closed the door stopping five of six in the shootout and 20 of 21 for the game. Lexington ended Peoria's eight-game winning streak, which was the longest in the ECHL this season, with the win.

Saturday, January 25th– Toledo 5 at Lexington 4

The Storm came to Rupp Arena on Saturday night and downed the MOW by a 5-4 final. Two late first period goals gave the Storm a 2-0 lead. The MOW were able to tie the game in the second, but the Storm retook the lead before the period ended. Each team scored two third period goals to set the final at 5-4. Marc-Andre Thinel scored two goals in the game. Mark Smith and Brett Draney also added goals for the Men.

UPCOMING GAMES......

The Men O' War face one of their busiest stretches of the season this week. The Men play five games in six nights beginning Tuesday in Peoria. Four of the five games will be played against teams from the Northwest Division. The Men begin the week by traveling to Peoria to face the Rivermen. Peoria right winger Randy Copley has scored four of his 11 goals this season in three games vs. the MOW. On Wednesday, the MOW begin a home and home series with the Cincinnati Cyclones. The teams are tied for third in the Northwest Division heading into this week. Cincinnati is on a six game winless streak as the MOW come to town. The second half of the home and home is set for Friday when the ‘Clones make their third visit to Rupp Arena. The Men O' War will spent their third straight Saturday night matching up with the Toledo Storm. On Saturday, January 18th, the Men beat the Storm in a shootout at Toledo Sports Arena. Last Saturday, the Men fell at home to the Storm. The MOW will look to take the rubber match of the Saturday series in Toledo on February 1st. The week ends with the lone appearance of the August Lynx at Rupp Arena. The Lynx are 5-18-2 this season on the road.

MOW Tracks

Lexington's Mike Smith leads Northern Conference goalies with a 2.56 GAA...Dan Murphy is tied for second in the Coast with a .815 shootout save percentage...Lexington leads the league with only two shorthanded goals allowed...Dominic Periard, Jared Smyth and Jesse Cook are the only MOW to appear in every game this season...Five of the last seven MOW victories have come in a shootout. The Men O' War are 7-2 in shootouts for the season.
