WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce today that forward Jacques Lariviere has been signed by the team and will make his Nailers debut Wednesday night in Richmond.

Lariviere, a 23-year-old native of Sorel, PQ, was a sixth round selection of the New Jersey Devils in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. This is his third season of professional hockey after a four-year career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

In the QMJHL he played three games for the Moncton Wildcats in the 1996-97 season and two full seasons after that. For the 1999-00 season he was a member of the Rimouski Oceanic and was a teammate of current Nailers forward Michel Ouellet. In his three plus seasons of junior hockey he had 50 points on 20 goals and 30 assists in 198 games. He also accumulated 869 penalty minutes.

Lariviere began his professional career in the East Coast Hockey League with the South Carolina Stingrays in the 2000-01 season. He also played for the St. John's Maple Leafs and the Quebec Citadelles of the American Hockey League and the Memphis RiverKings of the Central Hockey League.

Lariviere began this season in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins AHL training camp and played one game earlier this year with the Dayton Bombers.

The Nailers also announce that forward Andrew McPherson has been recalled by the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL and has been reassigned to the Charlotte Checkers of the East Coast Hockey League. McPherson, who was limited in play because of training camp knee surgery, appeared in 19 games for the Nailers and had one assist.

The Nailers return home on Friday, January 31 against the Augusta Lynx at 7:30p.m. It will be Mascot Night at the Wheeling Civic Center with several area mascots in attendance to entertain the crowd. Call the Nailers office at 234-4625 or toll free at 1-877-NAIL-TIX for ticket information.
