Grizzlies Rookie Goaltender Gets Call-Up From Dallas

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH (Mar. 3, 2003) - The Utah Grizzlies National Hockey League affiliate, the Dallas Stars, announced today that they have called up goaltender Jason Bacashihua from the Grizzlies and re-assigned goaltender Corey Hirsch to Utah.

Bacashihua, 20, has played in 31 games with Utah this season posting a 14-13-1-2 record with a 3.25 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. The rookie has also had two shutouts.

The Garden City, Michigan native was drafted by Dallas in the first round (26th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He made his AHL debut at the end of last season on April 7, 2002 losing in overtime to Milwaukee 3-2. Bacashihua has been outstanding at the E-Center this year posting a 10-4-0-1 record including a stretch of 108:53 minutes of shutout hockey. The youngster has allowed just 28 goals in his 14 victories (1.91 GAA)

Hirsch was re-called by the Stars on February 12th and did not see any action during his call-up. With Utah this season, Hirsch is 11-11-2 with a 2.72 GAA and a .921 save percentage.

The Grizzlies are off until Friday when they travel to Cleveland to play the Barons. Face-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM (MST).
