THE WEEK AHEAD

Friday, March 7th vs. Greenville Carolina Coliseum 7pm

The Inferno is 7-1-0 this season against the Grrrowl and 11-4-1 all time. This is the last time the Inferno will meet Greenville in the regular season. Greenville is in fifth place with 52 points in the Southeast Division.

Saturday, March 8th vs. Dayton Carolina Coliseum 7pm

This is the first time the Inferno play the Dayton Bombers in franchise history. Dayton is in 7th place in the Northwest Division with 48 points.

LAST WEEK Thursday, February 27th Columbia 1 SOUTH CAROLINA 2 @ Columbia

The Inferno out shot the Stingrays 44-13 but Columbia could not hold on and dropped to South Carolina 2-1. The Stingrays scored two fast goals :26 seconds apart in the first period to take the lead that would give them the win over the Inferno. Chris Pittman scored from the blue line at 12:56 of the third period with passes from Matt Ulwelling and Tim Smith to bring Columbia within one goal. South Carolina's goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck stopped 43 of 44 shots.

Friday, February 28th Columbia 4 GREENSBORO 5 (OT) @ Greensboro

The Inferno dropped to the Greensboro Generals in overtime 5-4 in a back and forth game. Columbia was up 2-1 at the end of the first period with goals by Regan Darby, his first of the season and Chris St. Croix. Greensboro tied the game in the second period. Rejean Stringer scored his 30th goal of the season on the power play at 2:27 of the third period. Greensboro tied it up again at 6:24. Shawn Wansborough scored on the power play at 8:41 to give the Inferno a 4-3 lead. Greensboro tied the game at 15:31 to push the game to overtime. With only 1:32 into overtime, Sam Ftorek scored the game winning overtime goal as the Inferno gain one point in the standings.

Saturday, March 1st COLUMBIA 6 Columbus 2 @ Columbia

Columbia exploded in the first period, scoring five goal, setting a new franchise record for most goals in a period. Chris St. Croix scored at 1:26 with passes from Shawn Wansborough and Matt Ulwelling on the power play. Trevor Demmans and Rejean Stringer had the assists on a Chris Pittman power play goal at 5:15. Robin Carruthers scored his first goal of the night at 6:44 with assists to Corey Hessler and Demmans. Columbus scored their first goal at 14:49 by newcomer Randy Copley. Carruthers scored his second goal of the night at 16:34 to give the Inferno a 5-1 lead at the end of the first period. Regan Darby and Stringer had the assists. Columbus scored 9:19 of the second period, as the Inferno was scoreless. Tim Smith scored the sixth goal for the Inferno at 7:42 of the third period on a breakaway from the blue line with Darby and Sean Owens setting him up. Josh Blackburn stopped 32 of 34 shots between the pipes for the Inferno to record his 14th win. Columbia has 40 shots on goal and went 2 for 5 on the power play.
