Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings @ Flint Generals IMA Sports Arena Monday, March 3, 2003 7:00 PM
Game Preview After a three game sweep of the Western Conference, the K-Wings will play an out of conference game against the Flint Generals. This will be the last time in the regular season the K-Wings will battle Flint. So far this year, the season series has been all Flint, as the K-Wings are 0-6-1 against their inter-state rivals. Unlike past visits to the IMA Sports Arena, Kalamazoo is looking to build on some recent momentum to propel them out of fifth place in the UHL's Western Conference. Kalamazoo enters to the contest with 56 points, just one behind the Rockford IceHogs for fourth place. With the IceHogs idle tonight; a K-Wings victory would move them out of last place for the first time since October 27th. Even more important than catching Rockford, a Kalamazoo victory gets the K-Wings closer to Flint, who they are chasing for the final playoff spot in the UHL. Entering tonight, the K-Wings are 6 points behind the Generals for the final playoff spot in the UHL playoffs.
To be victorious against the Generals the K-Wings will have to stop a 9 game losing streak to Flint, as well as a 6 game skid at the IMA Sports Arena. The last time the K-Wings defeated the Generals was January 18, 2002, when the K-Wings defeated the Generals 5-4 at Wings Stadium. Kalamazoo last victorious trip to the IMA Sports Arena was a 3-2 shootout victory on December 9, 2001. A couple building blocks for the K-Wings coming into the tonight's game, is that they are on a season high 3 game-winning streak. Tonight's game also marks the fourth game in four nights for the Generals, who will also be in action tomorrow night against Port Huron.
