Fresno Falcons News Release

BOISE, Idaho – The Fresno Falcons won for the first time at the Bank of America Centre since their Taylor Cup-clinching Game Six victory last spring by defeating the Idaho Steelheads, 5-2, on Sunday in Boise.

Idaho gained the early advantage just 12 seconds into the hockey game when Jonathan Shockey and Petr Suchanek combined to spring Adam Copeland right off the opening face-off, and he beat Fresno goaltender Mark Gowan for his 14th of the year. The Falcons refused to become rattled and tied the game at one after Glen Gulutzan capped off a three-on-two with Kris Porter and Jason Weaver for his 11th of the year. Fresno took a lead they would never relinquish on the power play at 8:29 after Weaver scored his 21st of the season off a rebound.

The Falcons added to their lead off another rebound, this time from Colin Embley at 6:00 of the second period, giving them a 3-1 lead. The Steelheads pulled within one with a power play goal from Jeremy Mylymok at 11:15, but that was the last time they would beat Gowan on the evening. Fresno's Jordan Landry added a little insurance at 18:29 to give the Falcons a 4-2 lead heading to the third.

The Falcons opened up a three-goal margin at 3:07 of the third when Kris Porter caught a break by banking a pass off Suchanek's skate past Idaho goaltender Blair Allison. The Steelheads attempted to rally throughout the final frame, pulling Allison twice in favor of an extra attacker throughout the middle portion of the third to no avail. Despite getting outshot 38-17 for the game, including 18-5 in the third, the Falcons skated to the 5-2 win.

The victory marked just the second time all season that a team has defeated the Steelheads in regulation on their home ice, and it was the Falcons' first win this season at Idaho in seven tries. Fresno is now 3-3-1 on their current 11-game road trip, bringing their overall mark to 30-21-6 and 66 points.

The Falcons' road trip continues on Tuesday when they visit the Bakersfield Condors at Centennial Garden. All of the live play-by-play action can be heard on 103.1 FM, The Mountain Cat, beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the Mail Boxes, Etc. Pre-game Show.
