Belleville Senators News Release

The Belleville Senators' second period woes continued Saturday night in a 5-3 loss to the Springfield Thunderbirds in Massachusetts.

Marcus Hogberg made 28 saves for Belleville while Christian Jaros, Jordan Szwarz and Morgan Klimchuk had goals. Springfield's Brady Keeper, Kevin Roy, Owen Tippett, Jonathan Ang and Anthony Greco scored while Philippe Desroisers stopped 30 shots.

Tied at 3-3 heading into the third, the Thunderbirds broke the tie with 5:16 to play through Ang who went bar down with a forehand from the left faceoff circle for his third of the year. Greco buried an empty-net goal with 1:19 to play to give Springfield the two points.

After some hard work by the Sens penalty killing group, that included killing off a 5-on-3 disadvantage, the Senators struck first at 10:13 of the first period through Jaros who nabbed his first goal of the season on a wrister from just inside the blue line.

The Sens doubled its lead at 16:27 through Szwarz who scored his first goal in a Sens jersey after he re-directed Max Lajoie's shot from the point.

But the Sens' second period jitters returned as they conceded twice in a 2:06 span as Keeper, and then Roy, scored back-to-back quickly to make it a 2-2 game before Tippett scored the go-ahead goal with 8:05 left in the period.

However, the Sens managed to find an equalizer as Klimchuk buried a backhanded rebound after Norris' initial shot had been saved with 3:32 left in the second to make it 3-3 while Michael Carcone and Roy scrapped before the game restarted after a disagreement ahead of the faceoff.

With the win, the Thunderbirds maintain their 100 per cent record over Belleville in their three contests.

Belleville returns to action Sunday afternoon for a 3pm game against Providence. The Sens are back at CAA Arena on Nov. 1 when they host Toronto.
