Senators win over Sound Tigers

January 17, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Bridgeport Islanders News Release

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost to the Binghamton Senators Friday night by a final score of 6-2. Anders Lee scored his team-leading 16th goal while Mike Halmo added a marker, as well. Ryan Strome, playing his first game with the Sound Tigers since being loaned from the Islanders, assisted on both Sound Tigers goals.

The Sound Tigers opened the scoring with a power-play goal from Lee at the 7:26 mark of the first period. Strome found Halmo behind the net, who then centered the puck out front for Lee. He beat Senators goaltender Andrew Hammond with the shot and gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Senators tied the score later in the first on a goal from Andre Petersson, his first of two on the night. Petersson took a pass from Fredrik Claesson and, from the high slot, ripped a wrist shot past Kenny Reiter. That tied the score, and the teams went to the first intermission with the score 1-1.

Binghamton picked up another goal early in the second period as Mike Hoffman ripped a shot off the cross-bar and in at the 1:16 mark. Midway through the period, Petersson got his second on a shot through a screen from the right-wing circle.

Halmo's goal cut the Sound Tigers deficit to one with less than two minutes to play in the second period. He took a pass down low and found the back of the net to make the game 3-2. The Senators came right back less than 30 seconds later, however, as Colt Schneider's goal once again made it a two-goal game.

Parker Milner started the third period in net for the Sound Tigers and made his sixth appearance of the season. The Senators picked up right where they left off, though, as Matt Puempel scored on the power play, Binghamton's second goal with the man advantage on the night. Hoffman got his second of the night later in the period as his backhand redirected off a Sound Tigers defenseman in front and got past Milner.

The Sound Tigers travel to Hershey to face the Bears Saturday before returning home to host the Hartford Wolf Pack Sunday at 3 p.m.
