Griffins Shut out Heat 3-0

Grand Rapids, MI- The Abbotsford Heat lost to the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings) 3-0 on Friday night at Van Andel Arena. The Heat remain in second place in the West Division with a 25-14-1-1 record and 52 points.

The Griffins scored a goal in each period and received solid goaltending from Tom McCollum who earned his second shutout of the season for Grand Rapids.

The Griffins opened the scoring late in the first period with a goal from David Mcintyre at 18:25. Grand Rapids took a 1-0 lead into the second period and outshot the Heat 15-11.

In the second period, the Heat put 14 shots towards the Grand Rapids net, but could not beat McCollum. Mitch Callahan scored the lone goal at 13:03 to extend the Griffins lead to 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Landon Ferraro put the game away with a goal at 11:16 in the third period to make it 3-0 and that was how the game ended.

The Heat were zero out of two on the power play and killed off both of their penalties in the game.

Tom McCollum picked up his 17th win of the season stopping all 35 shots he faced, while Joey MacDonald was charged the loss turning away 29 of 32 shots.

The Abbotsford Heat finish their six-game road trip on Saturday against the Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings). The Heat will then return home and begin an eight-game home stand, starting with the Utica Comets on January 24th and 25th at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.
