
Komets Take Two out of Three

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets earned 2 wins in 3 games for the week and improved to 10-5-0 on the season after 6 weeks of play for a UHL best point percentage of .667. The Komets split a home-and-home series with Port Huron and moved to within 3 points of the Eastern Conference leading Beacons.
Friday night the Komets started a 3-game weekend grounding the Adirondack IceHawks 4-1 at the coliseum. Kelly Perrault, Colin Chaulk, David-Alexandre Beauregard and Dustin Virag each scored Fort Wayne goals while Sean Venedam dished 3 assists for his 3rd 3-point outing of the season. Last week's UHL Goalie of the Week Tom Lawson stopped 27 of 28 IceHawk shots for his 4th straight win and the Komet's 5th straight victory.
Saturday the Komet's win string was snapped with a 2-1 loss to the visiting Port Huron Beacons. In the first of 4 visits to Fort Wayne by the Beacons the Komets outshot the Eastern Conference leader 30-20 and stopped 8 of 9 power plays. Jason Selleke scored the lone Fort Wayne tally as Lawson registered the loss making 18 saves and allowing 2 goals.
Sunday the Komets turned back the Beacons at Port Huron 6-2 for their 4th straight win on the road. Beauregard netted his first hat trick of the season and the 7th of his career scoring 3 power play tallies. Bobby Stewart scored a pair and Dustin Virag added a mark while Chaulk and Kelly Perrault each recorded 3 assists. Lawson earned his 7th win of the season in his 5th straight start.

Komet Players of the Week.....the Komet's nomination for UHL Goaltender of the Week is Tom Lawson. Lawson was 2-1-0 in 3 games played allowing 5 goals on 78 shots for a ..936 save percentage and 1.67 goals against average. Lawson currently leads all UHL goalies with a 1.60 average.....the Komet's nomination for UHL Sher-Wood Player of the Week is winger David-Alexandre Beauregard. The veteran scored the game winning goals in each of the 2 Komet wins and netted his first hat trick of the season in Sunday's 6-2 win at Port Huron. All 4 of his goals came on the power play. Beauregard's 3 power play tallies in Sunday's 6-2 win set a new Komet UHL record of most power play goals by a player in a game.
Stingy defense getting stingier.....the Komet's defense continues to be the stingiest in the UHL allowing only 37 goals in 15 games for a league best 2.47 goals against per game (down from 2.67 last week) and 25.9 shots against per game.
Milestones hit, records broken in one game.....Sunday the Komets tied or broke 2 team records and 3 players hit milestones in the 6-2 win at Port Huron. Colin Chaulk dished his 100th UHL career assist, Bobby Stewart notched his 100th regular season goal (his 2nd goal of the game) and Sean Venedam passed his 200th regular season assist. David-Alexandre Beauregard set a new Komet player UHL record of most power play goals in a game netting 3 with the man advantage. The Komets tied the team's UHL record of 4 power play goals in a game set Jan. 21, 2001 vs. Flint in a 5-3 win.

Streaking Komets.....Colin Chaulk 4-game point streak (1g, 6a, 7pts) and 4-game assist streak of 6 assists (current league high).....Kelly Perrault 3-game point streak (1g, 5a, 6pts).
Lawson's last half-dozen.....in his last 6 games (359:16), goalie Tom Lawson has allowed no more than 2 goals in any one game, has only allowed a total of 6 goals for a 1.00 goals against average, has made 143 saves on 149 shots for a .960 save percentage, is 5-1-0 and has successfully faced 32 of 37 power plays.
Get in the Zone.....the Komets and Hagerman Construction, the main contractor for the renovation of the Memorial Coliseum, have set up the "Komet Construction Zone" for the 2002-03 season giving local children's organizations a chance to see Komet hockey. 50 tickets to sit free in the "Construction Zone" will be donated to a local children's organization. In addition to the free tickets, groups will receive official Hagerman construction helmets and more courtesy of Hagerman Construction and the Komets. Meet the Komets at Ruby Tuesday's.....this Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 5:30pm to 7pm fans can meet Komet players at Ruby Tuesday's, corner of Parnell and Coliseum Blvd. This would be an excellent opportunity for Komet season ticket holders to use their Ruby Tuesday's discount on the back of season ticket stubs.
PHP=People Helping People.....the Komets and PHP are offering the opportunity for 19 local schools this year to participate in a special program. Komet players will visit the school to talk to students about careers, importance of teamwork, health, saying no to drugs and alcohol, and more. Each school participating gets 500 tickets to a Komet game, the player/coach appearance, and recognition at the Komet game they attend.
