Idaho Steelheads News Release
BOISE, Idaho - It has been a long twenty-nine days, twenty-one hours, and twenty minutes since the Idaho Steelheads have played on home ice. Despite the long road trip, the Steelheads have remained the West Coast Hockey League's first place team. Their record of 10-4-2 puts them 6 points ahead of the second place Bakersfield Condors. Each of Idaho's losses has come on the road; the Steelheads remain perfect at home.
In the most recent matchup against the Long Beach Ice Dogs, Idaho picked up five points on 2 wins (Wednesday 5-2, and Friday 3-1) and 1 shootout loss (Saturday 2-3).
The Steelheads lead the league with goals (52), assists (83), points (135), and power play goals (25). Idaho also leads the league in penalty killing (88.78%), allowing only 12 goals in 107 attempts. On the downside, the Steelheads are leading in minor penalties, having been whistled for 146 minutes.
Up Next:
The Steelheads will greet the defending Taylor Cup Champion Fresno Falcons Friday night for the first meeting of the two teams on Bank of America Centre ice since Fresno beat Idaho in Game 6 of the championship match last season. Because so much time has passed since they last played at home, and to have a little fun, the team, dressed in their new third jersey, will be reintroduced to the fans to mock another "season start."
Also, Friday is Idaho Wildlife Night and the first 2,500 fans that enter the door will receive a refrigerator magnet previewing the new Idaho Wildlife fish license plate.
Practice:
The Steelheads will practice at the Bank of America Centre Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 - noon, and Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Fresno will practice from 11:00 - noon on Friday.
In the Community:
The wives of the Idaho Steelheads and the Steelheads Booster Club have joined together to create a calendar for charity. Calendars, highlighting each player on the team, go on sale Friday, November 22 at the game, with proceeds going to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Ada County.
