ROANOKE, VA – The Roanoke Express finished the past week with a 0-3-0 record, which has the team at a 7-6-2 record (16 pts,. 6th NE Division). The Express trails the Richmond Renegades by seven points for the top spot in the division with three games in hand.

LAST WEEK'S ACTION

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15 at RICHMOND 8-1 Loss

The Express suffered its worst loss of the season on Friday night at the Richmond Coliseum as the Renegades came up with a convincing 8-1 win. Richmond started off with a three-goal first period featuring a power play goal and two even strength goals, giving them a 3-0 lead after one period. At the start of the second period a goaltending change for the Express didn't stop Richmond, as they lit the lamp five times in the middle frame to take a 8-0 lead before Jason Jaffray scored for the Express with 1:27 left in the period. Neither team tallied in the third period.

Evan Lindsay started in goal for the Express and took the loss, allowing three goals on 13 shots. Sebastien Laplante replaced Lindsay and made 23 saves on 28 shots. Dan Lombard made the start in goal for Richmond and stopped 19 of 20 Roanoke shots. The Express finished 0-for-4 on the power play and the Renegades were 1-for-4 on the man advantage.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16 at PEE DEE 5-1 Loss

The Express traveled to Florence, SC on Saturday night to take on Pee Dee and found themselves on the short end of the scoreboard, losing 5-1 to the Pride. Roanoke got off to the quick start scoring just :34 into the game on a power play goal by Frank Novock. With the Express applying strong pressure throughout the period, and unexpected delay of 35 minutes during the first period because of a power failure took some of the momentum away from the Express. When play resumed, Pee Dee tied the game with five minutes remaining in the period. With the teams tied 1-1 after the first period, the Pride put together a strong second period, scoring twice, and limiting the Express to just two shots on goal. Trailing 3-1 in the third period, the Express battled hard and had several strong chances at the net, including a 5-on-3 power play opportunity, but could not beat Pride netminder Matt Underhill. Pee Dee added a goal midway through the third period and picked up their fifth goal with under a minute to go in the game.

Sebastien Laplante made the start in goal for the Express and took the loss, facing 36 Pee Dee shots. Underhill made 27 saves to earn the win for Pee Dee. Roanoke finished 1-for-8 on the power play and the Pride converted on two of six chances with the man advantage.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17 vs. RICHMOND 3-2 Loss

The Express finished off the weekend with its second game against the Renegades in three days. In a hard fought battle, Richmond came off the ice with a 3-2 win over their in-state rivals. Helped out with 14 power play opportunities, including three 5-on-3 chances and a five-minute major power play, the Renegades converted all three of their goals with the man advantage. The Express also took advantage of its power play chances scoring twice on eight chances. Dan Carlson and Jason Jaffray each scored goals for the Express.

Sebastien Laplante made his second consecutive start in goal for Roanoke and made 28 saves, several of them big, but took the loss falling to 5-3-1 on the season. Dan Lombard made his second start against the Express this season for Richmond and stopped 24 of 26 Roanoke shots to earn the win and raise his record to 5-1-0.
