San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Gulls (7-7-1) split four games last week keeping them in third place in the West Coast Hockey League. The Blue and Orange trail the front-running Idaho Steelheads by seven points and the red-hot Bakersfield Condors by one point.

The Gulls have allowed only nine goals in their seven wins. They've allowed 35 goals in their eight losses... The power play continues to be an impediment for San Diego, ranking fifth in the WCHL... The Blue and Orange average the most shots per game, but are fifth in goals per game... Dean Tiltgen had a solid week, netting five points (3g, 2a). He is tied with R.J. for the team lead in points (15)...

TRANSACTIONS:

San Diego signed rookie Michael Lanthier and veteran Cory Cyrenne last week. Cyrenne was immediately placed on injured reserve... Joe Bianchi joins Clint Cabana on the season-ending injured list. Bianchi broke his leg in Tuesday's loss against the Fresno Falcons... Marc Busenburg and Rob Voltera remain with the American Hockey League's Hershey Bears...

COMMUNITY UPDATE: Nov. 22: Gulls players will attend an assembly at Chula Vista High School to kick off their fundraising efforts with the Blue and Orange. The school will sell tickets to a specific Gulls game, and $5.50 from every ticket sold will be given back to the school.

Nov. 29: The Gulls will host their third annual San Diego Harley Davidson Teddy Bear Toss to benefit "Hope for the Holidays." All fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to toss onto the ice after the Gulls score their first goal of the game. The teddy bears will be collected and donated to "Hope for the Holidays," a national charity to benefit underprivileged children.

Dec. 10: Six Gulls players will participate in Junior Seau Foundation's eighth annual Shop With A Jock. The event will allow approximately 200 underprivileged children the opportunity to shop for gifts for their loved ones. Each child will shop with an athlete from the Chargers, Gulls, Padres or local college athletic team. For more information on Shop With A Jock, please call the Junior Seau Foundation at 858-244-7328 ext 102.

LAST WEEK:

GULLS 4, Fresno 5; at San Diego, Tuesday, Nov. 12: Austin DeLuis capitalized on a Gulls defensive lapse nearing the final minute of the third period to lift Fresno to its victory over the Blue and Orange. San Diego took a 3-1 lead midway through the game, but the Falcons took over from there, netting four of the next five goals.

GULLS 4, Anchorage 1; at Anchorage, Friday, Nov. 15: Tiltgen and Clayton Read each had a goal and two assists leading San Diego to an easy 4-1 win. The game was tied heading into the second period, but three unanswered Gulls tallies was too much for the struggling Aces to overcome.

GULLS 2, Anchorage 1 (SO); at Anchorage, Saturday, Nov. 16: Trevor Koenig was perfect in the shootout, stopping all four Anchorage shooters, enabling the Gulls to squeak out a victory. San Diego had eight chances on the power play, including three two-man advantages, but couldn't muster anything through. The Aces, however, couldn't get anything going offensively either, losing for the ninth time in their last 10 games.

GULLS 1, Anchorage 5; at Anchorage, Sunday, Nov. 17: The Aces scored four unanswered goals to salvage the final game of the weekend series. Anchorage took and early 1-0 lead, before the Gulls tied it 41 seconds into the second period. San Diego controlled the play, out-shooting the Aces 31-24, but an opportunistic Anchorage team easily skated to the four-goal victory. It was Anchorage's first home win this season.

THIS WEEK:

San Diego finishes its four-game road trip Tuesday in Fresno, with game time set for 7 p.m. The Blue and Orange then have a week off before opening a two-game homestand Tuesday, Nov. 26 against the Falcons. All games can be heard live on 1130AM-KSDO and at www.ksdo.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. The Gulls' Internet radio show broadcasts live every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on wsradio.com with Tera Black and Jeremy Zager hosting.
