Stingrays and Generals leave Greenville with wins

The South Carolina Stingrays spotted the Greenville Grrrowl a 1-0 lead on Friday night, then rallied with three straight second period goals and held on for a 3-2 victory. On Saturday, the Greensboro Generals tied the game at 2-2 with just :37 seconds remaining in the third period, and won the shootout, 3-2.

FRIDAY: The Grrrowl opened a 1-0 lead on first period goal by TYLER DEIS, but the South Carolina Stingrays scored three times in the second period and led 3-1 after 40 minutes. MIKE HENDERSON made it a one-goal game in the third, but the Stingrays held on for a 3-2 win in front of 5,228 at the BI-LO Center.

SATURDAY: Again, it was TYLER DEIS giving Greenville a 1-0 lead in the first period. The Greensboro Generals never enjoyed the benefit of a lead through 65 minutes of regulation and overtime, but won the shootout, 3-2. JONATHAN GAUTHIER scored Greenville's second goal.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – TYLER DEIS

The Calgary, Alberta native recorded 3 points in two games for the Grrrowl last week. On Friday, Deis scored Greenville's first goal and added one assist in a 3-2 loss to South Carolina. Saturday, Deis again scored the game's first goal in a 3-2 SOL to Greensboro.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK – MICHAEL GARNETT

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native stopped 63 of 68 shots in two games last weekend. Garnett faced 40 shots in a 3-2 loss to SC Friday, and recorded 26 saves in a 3-2 shootout loss to Greensboro on Saturday. He also stopped 4 of 5 shooters in Saturday's shootout.

TUESDAY vs. PEE DEE PRIDE: 7:05 PM – The Pride have lost 2-in-a-row, and are currently in sole possession of third place in the Southeast Division with 59 points...they are 10-12-2 on the road (17-4-3 at home)... they are the third least penalized team in the Southern Conference (24.1 PIM's/game)... the Grrrowl are 0-3-1 vs. Pride... Pee Dee is allowing a league-low 28.7 shots on goal per game... they also have the best GAA in the Southern Conference (2.79).

FRIDAY at SOUTH CAROLINA: 7:30 PM – The Stingrays are the fourth place team in the Southeast Division with 56 points and a 13 point lead over Greenville and Columbus... SC has lost 2 straight, and they host Columbus on Tuesday... the top five powerplay units come from the Northern Conference, and the Stingrays have the best PP in the South at 21.6%... they are 5-1 in shootouts... the Stingrays beat the Grrrowl 3-2 in Greenville last Friday.

SATURDAY vs. COLUMBIA: 7:35 PM – Columbia is the top team in the Southeast Division and the second place team in the Southern Conference with 65 points (Louisiana, 68)... the Inferno have won 5 straight games... they have the best penalty-killing unit in the ECHL at 87.4%, and they are the least penalized team in the Southern Conference (21.9 PIM's/game)... REJEAN STRINGER is tied for second in the league scoring race with 70 points in 52 games.

SUNDAY vs. AUGUSTA: 3:05 PM – The Lynx start the week 5 points behind Greenville and Columbus for the 5th and final playoff spot in the Southeast Division... they have a league-high 21 losses on the road (6-21-2)... the next closest team is Columbus with 15 road losses... they have the second-worst powerplay in the ECHL at 11.9% (Jackson, 11.8%)... the Grrrowl have won 3 of 4 against Augusta this season.
