Louisiana IceGators News Release

Lafayette, LA – The Louisiana IceGators have acquired former All-Star center Casey Kesselring from the South Carolina Stingrays for future considerations, the IceGators announced today. The 28-year-old Kesselring becomes the eldest statesmen among the IceGators, not counting the injured John DePourcq.

Kesselring has played in 251 career games, notching 206 points (70g, 136a) and 144 penalty minutes. Kesselring, a native of Cambridge, Ontario, had seen action in 249 games entering this season; therefore he is not classified as a veteran.

"We are extremely fortunate to acquire Casey," said IceGators head coach and vice president of hockey operations Dave Farrish. "He brings valuable experience and a lot of offense to the table and will help us in the loss of Bruce Richardson to Hershey."

The 6-foot, 185-pound centerman saw action in just two games with the Stingrays this season, recording three assists. He hasn't played in a game since December 21. Last season, Kesselring split time between Greensboro and Macon, totaling 41 points (10g, 31a) and 47 penalty minutes.

Kesselring, a Merrimack College product, began his pro career in 1998-99 with Johnstown, where he racked up 43 points (18g, 25a) in 46 games and was an ECHL All-Star. He played alongside Louisiana's Bobby Brown, then in Dayton, in the All-Star Game. After Johnstown, Kesselring played two seasons in Pee Dee. He had his best season as a pro with the Pride in 2000-01, a 66-point (19g, 47a), 71-game campaign. Also in 2000-01, Kesselring and his Pride ‘mates fell to the IceGators in five games in the second round of the ECHL playoffs.
