Dayton Bombers News Release
The Dayton Bombers Professional Hockey Team beat Lexington 6-4 at home on Friday, then lost 4-2 on Nutter Center ice to Cincinnati on Saturday and 6-0 at the Toledo Sports Arena on Sunday in a 1-2 weekend. The Bombers will prepare for a "Celebrity Waiter" Cystic Fibrosis Dinner Event on Thursday of this week, then host Lexington once again on Sunday in an important Northwest Division tilt.
Below is a review of this past weekend's Bombers' games:
2/7/03- Lexington 4 @ BOMBERS 6
The Dayton Bombers received points from 14 different players and scored four goals in the third period en route to a 6-4 victory over the Lexington Men O'War during Mardi Gras Night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. Trailing 3-2 entering the third period, the Bombers scored twice in a 3:06 span to grab a 4-3 lead. Blair Stayzer stuffed a puck into the net past Dan Murphy on a wraparound attempt at 1:53 for his first goal as a Dayton Bomber. Ryan Vince, one of six different Bombers' goal scorers, notched his 17th tally of the season at 4:59 when his attempted centering pass to Chris M. Thompson caromed off a Lexington defender and past Murphy. Fraser Clair sent a feed from Ben Storey past Bombers goalie Jayme Platt to tie the game (4-4) at 7:37, but Brian Cummings answered 1:07 later when he fought through a check to put Yann Joseph's pass past Murphy. Chris M. Thompson scored into an empty net with four seconds remaining in regulation. Jason Deskins scored his second goal in as many games in the first period and Fred Slukynsky provided a second period conversion for the Bombers. Jayme Platt stopped 33 shots for the Bombers and recorded an assist on Chris M. Thompson's empty net goal. Mark Smith, Van Burgess, Ryan Fultz, and Fraser Clair had goals for the Men O'War.
2/8/03- Cincinnati 4 @ BOMBERS 2
The Cyclones opened up a 3-0 lead on the strength of power play goals by Steve Gallace and Joe Cardarelli (in addition to an even strength tally by Mike Casselman) en route to a 4-2 victory at the Ervin J. Nutter Center. The Bombers had a season-high 8,077 fans in attendance as part of Ohio Lottery "Shoot for a Million Dollars"/Bud Light $1 Beer Night. Those fans witnessed Bombers' goals by Blair Stayzer and Ryan Vince (SH).
2/9/03- BOMBERS 0 @ Toledo 6
Nick Parillo and Matt Ellis each scored twice, while Dale Junkin had a goal and two assists as the Toledo Storm snapped a three-game winless skid (0-2-1) with a 6-0 triumph over the Bombers. Mike Minard, a former Bomber and Edmonton Oiler (NHL) goalie stopped 29 shots en route to the shutout. The Bombers have now been shutout five times this season, including their last three road games.
BOMBER BITES: The Bombers will play 13 of their remaining 20 games on the road ... Center Jamie Ling is currently 9th on the all-time ECHL career assists list (345), just three back 8th place Phil Berger (348) ... The Bombers are 7-5-1 in their last 13 games and 5-2-1 in their last eight home contests ... Goalie Shane Bendera enters the week fourth in ECHL goals-against average (2.54). He has started in ten of the last 13 Bombers' games and appeared in 15 of the 18. He has allowed two goals or less in eight of his last 15 appearances ... Forward Chris M. Thompson has points in seven of his last ten games (7-8-15) ... Defenseman Tom Nemeth is second in ECHL defenseman shots entering the week (181), thirteen back of Cincinnati's Ryan Gaucher (194) ... Along with the Richmond Renegades, the Louisiana Ice Gators, and the Pensacola Ice Pilots, the Bombers lead the league in overtime wins entering the week (5). Forward Ryan Vince has two of the Bombers' five OT game-winners ... The Bombers lead the ECHL in shots on goal entering the week (1803) ... The Bombers have allowed the third fewest shots per game in the ECHL entering the week (29.73) ... Ryan Vince has points in 23 of his last 28 games (16-15-31). He leads the team in goals (18) and first goals (5) ... W Chris M. Thompson leads the Bombers in multi-point games (13) and power play points (5-12-16) ... Ten different Bombers have been beckoned by American Hockey League teams this season.
DUBLIN PUB/''SCOR'' AMERICAN EATERY & PUB TO PRESENT ''BEHIND THE BENCH": The Dayton Bombers announced last week that they will be partnering with Dublin Pub (300 Wayne Avenue in the Historic Oregon District) and its new sister restaurant, "SCOR" American Eatery & Pub (Sugar Bell Plaza on State Route 725 in Bellbrook), to present the Dayton Bombers' "Behind the Bench" Coach's Show to be held live before a studio audience. The six-program run, featuring host/Bombers' play-by-play voice Matt Gorsky and the Bombers' all-time winningest Head Coach Greg Ireland, will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on select non-game days (see below schedule) throughout the rest of the season. Fans are welcome to speak out at these events. Members of the live studio audience will get a chance to ask questions of the broadcast panel. "These fun, 'hockey get-togethers' in two unique restaurant settings will be truly interactive experiences, with fans able to 'rant and rave' in a specialized forum focused solely on the sport," said Gorsky. Head Coach Ireland added, "There is nothing like being able to discuss hockey with fans in a quality establishment. As a proud Irishman, I am particularly looking forward to the debut show at the Dublin Pub in the Historic Oregon District on Wednesday, February 19." BOMBERS TO HAVE SPECIAL $5 RATE FOR ALL COLLEGE STUDENTS AND FANS 18 AND UNDER: For the rest of the 2002-2003 regular season, fans 18 and under as well as all college students who present a valid student ID can purchase a silver game ticket for $5. "We were looking for a way to continue attracting young people to our games. This special rate we believe satisfies that goal," said Dayton Bombers' General Manager Ed Gingher.

There will be a live and silent auction at the event, in addition to dinner, dancing, and fun activities with celebrities. In addition, players will skate with fans during a free post-game skate. The Bombers are 2-4-2 against Lexington this season, but are 2-2-1 in the games played at the Ervin J. Nutter Center, including a 6-4 win there on Friday, February 7.
