
Men O\' War End Week in Final Playoff Spot

Lexington, KY-The Men O' War played only two games last week starting Wednesday with a 3-2 overtime loss in Johnstown. Lexington followed up with a 6-4 loss in Dayton on Friday night. This week Lexington gets ready for three games with the second place Toledo Storm in four days. Sunday Lexington will make their final trip to Dayton to round out their week.
Wednesday, February 5th â Lexington 1 at Johnstown 3, OT
The Lexington Men O' War saw their dominance of the Johnstown Chiefs change Wednesday night at the War Memorial with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Chiefs. Samuel St. Pierre put the puck upstairs just 1:37 into the extra frame for the Chiefs third straight win. The loss ended the Men's winning streak at a season-high three games and left the Men's third place lead over Cincinnati at two points. Lexington still gets a point in the standings for the overtime loss. Mike Smith took the loss in net stopping 25 of 28 shots. Ben Storey and Jared Smyth each notched a power play goal and an assist in the losing effort. Joe Vandermeer and Fraser Clair also picked up an assist. Lexington had won all but one of the previous six meetings.
Friday, February 7th- Lexington at Dayton 6
The Lexington Men O' War ran out of options and players in the third period Friday night as Dayton took advantage firing in four third period goals for the 6-4 win. Despite playing four men short Lexington's Van Burgess posted a four-point night in the loss. Dan Murphy took the loss stopping 38 of 43 shots, allowing five different Bombers to score. Lexington falls to Dayton for only the second time in eight meetings. Ryan Fultz also enjoyed a multi-point night with his best performance of the season picking up a goal and two assists. Fraser Clair and Mark Smith also notched goals. Smith's was his team leading 21st of the season. Lexington will not play again until Wednesday night in Toledo.
UPCOMING GAMES ......
The Men O' War will play four games this week including three with division rival Toledo. The Storm will host the Men on Wednesday and Saturday with a game at Lexington on Friday in between. Both teams have three wins in the six games played splitting the season series. Lexington is 2-1-0 at Toledo this season with one of the wins coming in a shootout. Toledo has gone 2-1-0 at Rupp Arena this season. The Storm have lost two games in regulation and four in extra frames at the Toledo sports Arena this year. Lexington has one of each of those losses. Mark Smith has seven points in six games against the Storm. Matt Ellis has six points in six games played for Toledo.
Lexington returns to Dayton for a final time this Sunday. Lexington has owned the season series going 6-2-0 this year against the Bombers. Lexington 's Van Burgess leads all scorers in the series with nine points in eight games. Jamie Ling leads Dayton in scoring for the series with eight points in eight games.
MOW Tracks
The Men are depleted by injuries and call-ups. Forwards Mike Sgroi and Marc-Andre Thinel each remain on re-call the Utah. Defensemen Dominic Periard and Jesse Cook have each missed games over the last week. Forwards Alex Mathieu and Jared Smyth have also been limited in playing time due to injuries.... Mike Smith is second in the ECHL with a 2.51 GAA...Dan Murphy ranks fourth in shootout save percentage (.781) among ECHL goalies. Murphy is also tied for first in the Coast with four shootout wins...Ben Storey ranks third among ECHL D-men in shots with 168.
