Alaska Aces News Release

LONG BEACH, California – Yvan Corbin scored six goals over the weekend, and while Anchorage came up empty in the win column, the 30-year-old winger gained a leg up in the race for the West Coast Hockey League scoring title.

Corbin scored four times in posting Anchorage's first five-point game of the year in an 11-6 loss at Fresno Friday night. Corbin completed his hat trick midway through the second period to give the Aces a 3-1 lead, but the Falcons overwhelmed Anchorage with 10 goals over the final 32 minutes of regulation. He found the range twice more the following night in Long Beach as the Aces rallied from 2-0 and 3-2 deficits before falling 4-3, their 18th defeat over the last 22 games.

Corbin also scored each night in a two-game set with Bakersfield back in Alaska earlier in the week, including a 4-3 victory last Tuesday that gave Anchorage its first back-to-back wins in seven weeks. He now leads the WCHL with 32 goals and 60 points, one ahead of linemate Dean Larson, who had five assists over the weekend and has 38 for the year, third in the league (his 21 goals are tied for fifth).

The Aces (12-35-2) trek to San Diego for a Tuesday night clash with the Gulls at 6:00 p.m. AST before finishing up their six-game road trip with three in Boise Friday through Sunday at 5:00 p.m. AST. The first-place Idaho Steelheads have lost only one game all year (21-1-1) at the Bank of America Centre. All games are broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM and at www.anchorageaces.com or www.kfqd.com, with Jack Michaels calling the play-by-play. Coverage begins 20 minutes prior to the opening face-off, presented by GCI.

All fans 18 years of age or older will be eligible for a trip to Hawaii that will be given away during the course of Anchorage's February 22 game against Idaho at 7:00 p.m. Xpress Lube will be presenting jersey shirts to the first 750 fans aged 14 & under arriving that night while all fans will receive free tans, courtesy of Sun Splash.
