
Rays Look to Raise Money for CMN at Next Home Game

Fundraising with the Rays:
A special thanks to everyone who attended last Saturday's Pink in the Rink Night. We are still totaling up the amount of money raised for the American Cancer Society, and we are so grateful for all your generosity. If you were the winning bidder at the silent auction and still need to pick up your prize, please call Katie Ginther at 744-2248 x1208.
Next up for the Stingrays Fundraising Campaign is Children's Miracle Network Night at the Rays next home game on Saturday, March 15th. The Rays have teamed up with Kraft, Wal-Mart, Frito Lay, Pepsi and Coke to raise money for CMN. The Stingrays will be holding a raffle auction for the specialty game worn jerseys with tickets costing $1 each. The raffle will conclude at the end of the 2nd intermission with all proceeds going to CMN. Fans can purchase individual tickets to the game by logging onto www.stingrayshockey.com and clicking on the "Special Ticket Codes" button on the left. Just enter the code "macncheese" to purchase your ticket and $4 from each online ticket will go back to CMN. Fans will have until Friday, March 14th to purchase their tickets online. Community Update:
The Stingrays have almost attended every school participating in the Hat Trick for Reading Night on Sunday, March 16th. This week players are heading to Ashley River Elementary, Sullivan's Island Elementary, Berkeley Intermediate, Belle Hall Elementary, Reeves Elementary, C.E. Williams Elementary, Cario Middle School, Hanahan Elementary, and James Island Elementary.
Hat Trick for Reading Night will also be Education Appreciation Night. All teachers, faculty, and staff can purchase a discounted ticket to the game by calling Ashley Hoffman at 744-2248 x1204.
Members from the front office will be out at Kids Fair 2008 at the Gaillard Auditorium downtown on Sunday, March 9th from 10am until 5pm with their Slap Shot Machine.
It's the final Kids Club Party on Sunday, March 9th at 5:30pm at the Children's Museum downtown. Don't forget to wear your lanyard for free entrance into the museum. Food and drinks will be provided and the whole team will be there.
Latest in Hockey News:
The Stingrays were busy last week, playing five games in eight days. First up were the Augusta Lynx on Tuesday, Feb. 26th. Chris Chaput had two goals and Davis Parley collected his 16th win of the season as the Stingrays won 5-2.
First-ranked Texas came to town on Friday, Feb. 29th. Even though Chaput had his second two-goal game in a row, the Stingrays were unable to overcome the Wildcatters, losing
4-6.
Hoping to bring in March with a win, the Stingrays faced-off against the Columbia Inferno. The Inferno had four unanswered goals and defeated the Stingrays 6-3.
Josh Johnson was in goal the next night when the Rays played Augusta. Stopping all 34 shots, he recorded his 2nd shut-out on the year and the Rays won 1-0.
Last night, the Dayton Bombers were in town. With both teams playing short-handed, Dayton came out on top 3-1 behind two goals from Scott Kelman.
Team News:
The Stingrays on the ice yesterday looked different than on Sunday as roster moves were made prior to the trade deadline. On Monday, Travis Morin was called up to the Hershey Bears. Yesterday Andrew Andricopolus and Derrick Byfuglien were traded to the Bakersfield Condors in exchange for all-star center Todd Griffith. Griffith is expected to join the team for Saturday's game in Columbia. Tim Judy has also been signed by the team.

ECHL Leaders:
Travis Morin, who was called up to the Hershey Bears on Monday, is 5th in the league in scoring with 65 points (29g-36a) in 56 games. His 29 goals is third in the league, his 224 shots is 4th in the league and he leads the league with six short-handed goals, two ahead of Luke Fulghum of Elmira who has four.
Grant McNeill has the league lead in minor penalties with 68 in 52 games. His 191 penalty minutes is first among defensemen and 11 major penalties is third, tied with teammate Nate Kiser.
Tim Judy, who signed again with the team before last night's game, is 4th with his 21.4% shooting percentage. He has three goals in just 14 shots in the 18 games he's played with the Rays this season.
In goalie news, Davis Parley is 10th among goalies with a 2.53 goals-against average. Josh Johnson has 1990 minutes, which is fifth in the league.
Among rookies, the Stingrays continue to have two of the top-20 point scorers. Travis Morin is 2nd with 65 points, and Pierre-Luc O'Brien's has moved up to 13th with 47 points. Morin's 29 goals also places him 2nd and O'Brien's 37 assists is 5th. Morin has 11 power play goals on the year, which is fourth among rookies and his six short-handed goals is first.
The Stingrays are in 2nd place in the South Division with 75 points, two points ahead of the Gwinnett Gladiators, and are in 3rd place in the American Conference.
The Stingrays are 7th in the power play, converting 20.2% of the time, and 13th in the penalty kill, successful 83.7% of the time.
