WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers announced today that defensemen Chris Brooks and Jeremy Swanson have been traded to the Columbia Inferno for future considerations. In turn Columbia traded Swanson to Cincinnati for AJ Bozoian and Travis Fuller while also dealing Brooks to Augusta for Jeremy Schenderling and Eric Lundberg.
In a separate move, Matt Johnson has been traded to Elmira, also for future considerations.
Swanson, 23, has played in 35 games this season for the Nailers and served as an alternate captain since the start of the year. He has collected a goal and five assists to accompany 42 penalty minutes. The fourth-year pro has 79 games of American Hockey League experience. Swanson was selected by the Florida Panthers in the sixth round (#169 overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Brooks, 25, has spent each of his two professional seasons with the Nailers after appearing in 49 games as a rookie last year. In 56 games this season he scored his first professional goal and contributed seven assists.
Johnson, 26, joined the Nailers on January 9 and has played in 13 games with Wheeling. He scored two goals (both game-winners) and also added an assist and eight penalty minutes. He began the year by playing seven games with the Augusta Lynx and recorded one goal.
The Nailers take on the Johnstown Chiefs Friday at 7pm at the Cambria County War Memorial. After a Saturday matinee in Trenton at 12pm, Wheeling returns home to face off against the Reading Royals at 6:05pm.
