Cyclones Desjardins Named RBC Financial Group Saver Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Cedrick Desjardins of the Cincinnati Cyclones is the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month for February.

The 6-foot and 192-pound goaltender was 5-0-0 with a shutout, a 1.40 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage as the Cyclones went 13-0-0 in February and set an ECHL record with a 17-game winning streak.

Desjardins started the month tying his season high with 39 saves in a 4-1 win at Wheeling on Feb. 1 and turned aside 29 shots in an 8-3 win against Mississippi on Feb. 6. He made 25 saves in a 4-1 win against Mississippi on Feb. 9 before again stopping 39 shots to record his league-leading fifth shutout in a 7-0 win at Trenton on Feb. 15. He was recalled to Hamilton of the American Hockey League after making 23 stops in a 5-2 win against Johnstown on Feb. 22.

The 22 year old is 16-4-2 and leads the ECHL with a 1.92 goals-against average and is tied for the lead with a .934 save percentage in 22 games with the Cyclones. He is 0-1-0 with a 5.30 goals-against average and a .852 save percentage in three games with Hamilton.

Desjardins was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team in 2006-07 after going 24-10-2 with four shutouts, a 2.54 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage in 44 regular season games for Cincinnati. He was 6-4 with two shutouts, a 2.90 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage in 10 Kelly Cup Playoff games for the Cyclones.

The Edmundston, New Brunswick native played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he was 67-47-4 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 3.51 and a save percentage of .901 in 128 regular season games with Rimouski and Quebec from 2002-06.

Desjardins helped Quebec win the 2006 Memorial Cup, earning Outstanding Goaltender and First Team All-Star honors. He was 28-10-0 with five shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.95 and a save percentage of .906 in 41 regular season games in 2005-06.

Runners Up: Craig Kowalski, Gwinnett (8-1-1, 2.18 GAA, .916 save pct.) and Marek Schwarz, Alaska (6-0-0, 2.08 GAA, .924 save pct.).
