Deadline Deal Lands Tyler Hirsch From Johnstown
March 5, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and American Hockey League's Springfield Falcons, has acquired rookie right wing Tyler Hirsch from the Johnstown Chiefs in exchange for future considerations, Thunder head coach Chris Cichocki announced today.
"Tyler is a dynamic offensive player who will be a much-needed addition to our lineup after Jacob Micflikier's call-up and injury in December," said Cichocki. "He'll receive quality ice time and we're looking for him to be instrumental in helping turn around our power-play."
Hirsch, 24, has scored 30 points (11g-19a) in 31 games and tallied 38 penalty minutes with Johnstown this season, ranking tied for fourth on the Chiefs with 13 power-play points (3g-10a). Originally signed by the Chiefs as a free agent on December 13, 2007 after starting the season in Finland with HPK Hameenlinna, the 5-foot-9, 172-pound forward has already amassed seven multi-point games this season and is slated to join the Thunder with a five-game scoring streak, netting seven points (3g-4a) in that span.
The Bloomington, Minn. native spent five years (2002-07) of his college hockey career at national-power University of Minnesota (NCAA), scoring 117 points (31g-86a) in 143 career games while tallying 150 penalty minutes. Hisch led the Golden Gophers with a career-high 44 points (11g-33a) and 33 assists in 40 games as a 2004-05 junior, helping guide the program to a National Championship as a 2002-03 freshman.
The Thunder returns home for its next game against the Idaho Steelheads this Friday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. from Stockton Arena. The game can be heard live on radio at 1420-AM KSTN and online (video and audio available) at http://www.stocktonthunder.com/, courtesy of B2 Networks.
The Thunder has led the ECHL in attendance for two consecutive seasons and drew 244,085 fans to Stockton Arena in 2006-07. Season tickets, mini plans, group and individual tickets for 2007-08 are on sale now.
