Toronto Marlies News Release

The Toronto Marlies, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, today announced that forward John Pohl has been selected as a member of the Planet/USA team for next month's 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic at Winnipeg's MTS Centre. Pohl was among the top three leading vote-getters at the forward position and thus will be in the starting lineup when the puck drops in the 12th Annual AHL All-Star Classic on February 1st. He will also partake in the event's individual Skills Competition on Monday, January 31st.

The Rochester, Minnesota native set a franchise record when he registered at least one point in five consecutive road games in mid-November of 2005. He also set a new team mark by being recognized with first-star honours in three straight games (at Hamilton, versus Hamilton, at Cleveland) in early December. He leads the Marlies in scoring with 34 points (19 goals, 15 assists) while having been named the game's first-star in a remarkable six of 31 appearances to date. He has twice been recalled to the parent Maple Leafs and has averaged just shy of 13 minutes of ice-time per game in five contests. He scored his first NHL goal in Toronto's 6-3 victory over the Devils on December 31st at New Jersey.

The Marlies return to action on Friday evening when they face the Rampage - AHL affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes - at San Antonio's SBC Center at 8:00 pm EST.
