Falcons Host Bears Tonight

Two of the most historic American Hockey League cities will battle tonight when the Springfield Falcons and Hershey Bears conclude their 2005-06 season series at the MassMutual Center. The Falcons and Bears last played each other back on November 5 with the Falcons collecting a point losing in a shootout, 3-2. Rookie Ryan Vesce scored both of Springfield's goals in that contest, while Hershey's Jared Aulin and Joey Tenute scored the two goals in regulation for the Bears.

The Falcons enter tonight's game looking to get back on the winning track after losing a hard-fought game to the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday, 5-3. Marek Kvapil, Jason Jaspers and Nick Tarnasky scored for Springfield. The Falcons enter tonight's contest with a record of 14-17-2-4 good for 34 points in the Atlantic Division standings. Springfield will play three games in the next four days, including a pair of road games this weekend when Springfield travels to Binghamton on Friday and Syracuse on Saturday.

The Bears head into Springfield in the middle of a four-game road trip, which will conclude on Friday night in Hartford. Hershey was shut out by the Binghamton Senators, 4-0, on Saturday night and the Bears have gone 0-1-0-1 thus far on their road trip. Hershey enters tonight's game with a record of 22-8-2-6 good for 52 points and second-place in the East Division standings. The Bears will return home this weekend to host the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins on Saturday and Norfolk Admirals on Sunday.

SCHULTZ JOINS THE FALCONS: The Falcons announced Monday that they have traded defenseman Brad Tiley to the San Antonio Rampage in return for future considerations. Springfield received defenseman Ray Schultz on loan from the Phoenix Coyotes and Schultz arrived in Springfield on Tuesday.

Schultz joins the Falcons after playing in 16 games for San Antonio this season collecting one goal, one assist and 28 penalty minutes. Schultz started the season with the Albany River Rats recording five assists and 22 penalty minutes in 18 games played.

Schultz and Tiley were teammates during the 2003-04 season winning a Calder Cup Championship with the Milwaukee Admirals. Schultz is in his ninth season of professional hockey and was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators with their eighth choice (184th overall) in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound blueliner has played in 422 career AHL games collecting 12 goals and 61 assists for 73 points with 1,136 penalty minutes.

STEADY UP THE MIDDLE: Falcons center Jason Jaspers scored his team leading 16th goal of the season this past Sunday in Manchester and now has three goals in his last four games played. Jaspers leads the Falcons in scoring this season with 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points in 37 games. The Thunder Bay, Ontario native also leads the team in power play goals with nine and shots on goal with 128. Jaspers has collected a point in seven of his last 11 contests recording seven goals and four assists for 11 points in that span.

TOP AHL ROOKIES: Hershey rookie Eric Fehr is currently ranked fourth in the league in rookie scoring with 15 goals and 19 assists for 34 points in 37 games played. Fehr is in his first season of professional hockey after completing his junior career with the Brandon Wheat Kings (WHL) last season. In 71 games with Brandon last season, the Winkler, Manitoba native collected 59 goals and 52 assists for 111 points. Fehr is one point ahead of Falcons rookie Ryan Vesce, who has 10 goals and 23 assists for 33 points in 37 games. Vesce was named to the Planet USA AHL All-Star team on Wednesday and is second on the Falcons in scoring and is second in shots on goal with 102.
