January 11, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release
HARTFORD, January 11, 2006: The American Hockey League announced today that Wolf Pack goaltender Al Montoya and defenseman Thomas Pöck have been selected to the Planet USA team for the 2006 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic, which takes place January 31-February 1 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Montoya, a native of Glenview, IL, is 11-3-0 thus far in his rookie season, with a 2.42 goals-against average and a 91.6% save percentage. The former New York Ranger first-round draftee (sixth overall in 2004) is tied for eighth in the AHL in wins, tied for ninth in GAA and ranks 10th among league backstops in save percentage. He set a Wolf Pack single-game record in a 3-2 win October 29th vs. Bridgeport with 51 saves, and won seven straight starts from October 28-December 23.
Pöck hails from Klagenfurt, Austria and has posted totals of six goals, a team-best 21 assists and 27 points in 34 games on the year. Pöck is currently tied for third on the Wolf Pack club in points and the ex-University of Massachusetts-Amherst Minuteman ranks tied for fifth in the league in point-scoring among defensemen. Pöck has already struck for a pair of four-point games this season. Prior to those efforts, no blueliner in the eight-year history of the Wolf Pack franchise had scored four points in a single contest.
The Wolf Pack return to action tonight at Bridgeport, in a GEICO Connecticut Cup battle with the Sound Tigers (7:35 PM faceoff). Following that are a pair of home games, Friday night vs. Hershey and Saturday evening against Portland (both 7:00 starts). Friday is a Guida's Family Value Night, call the Wolf Pack ticket office at 860-548-2000 to order Family Value Night packages that start as low as $33. Saturday is the Pack's fifth annual "Scout Sleepover", and all fans at the game that night receive a Wolf Pack pennant and a nylon lunch bag, courtesy of Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Anthem Rewards.com.
