
Chiodo, McLean join Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned goaltender Andy Chiodo from the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, it was announced Wednesday. Additionally, center Kurtis McLean has been recalled by the AHL Penguins from Wheeling.
Chiodo, 22, has appeared in 14 games with the Nailers, posting an 8-4-1 record with a 3.19 goals against average and .884 save percentage. He has also appeared in one game with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, making 19 saves to help the Penguins to a 3-2 win in Norfolk on December 3.
Selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round (199th overall) of the 2003 Entry Draft, Chiodo has appeared in 67 games in parts of four seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting a 28-29-4 record with six shutouts and a 2.60 goals against average. He has also appeared in eight games with Pittsburgh, going 3-4-1 with a 3.46 goals against average.
McLean leads the Nailers and is second in the ECHL with 44 points (24+20) and a plus-18 rating in 33 games this season. His 24 goals are third overall in the league and his 10 power play tallies are tied for second. He leads all ECHL rookies in goals and points, is tied for first in power play points (20), is second in game-winning goals (4), second in shooting percentage (20.3) and third in shots (118).
McLean played at Norwich University before turning pro, leading the team in scoring in each of his four seasons at the school. He recorded 212 points (118+94) in 115 career games with the Cadets and was a member of the 2003 Division-III National Championship team.
The 5-11, 175 pound forward from Kirkland Lake, ON, was signed by the Penguins as a free agent on September 29.
