'Gades Host Wheeling Wednesday

Richmond Renegades News Release


The Richmond Renegades are 20-19-3 after going 2-3 last week. The ‘Gades are in a fifth place tie with Reading in the Northeast Division, two points behind fourth place Trenton. After playing 12 games in 18 days, the schedule eases up. Richmond is home Wednesday to host Wheeling.

THE WEEK AHEAD (ALL TIMES EASTERN)

Wednesday, January 15 vs. Wheeling 7:05 PM GAME NOTES: The second of three meetings and the first of two here. Richmond thumped Wheeling 6-0 in December. Marc Magliarditi stopped 27 shots and Peter Hogan scored two goals. Wheeling is coached by John Brophy, the former Hampton Roads Admirals head coach and the winningest coach in minor pro hockey history.

Saturday, January 18 @ Roanoke 7:35 PM GAME NOTES: The fifth of 10 meetings and the second of five at Roanoke. ‘Gades are 2-2 vs. the Express, 1-0 at Roanoke. The Express won the last two meetings. Lars Pettersen, Brad Church, and Richard Pitirri have six points vs. the Express. Dan Carlson and Jason Jaffray have five vs. the ‘Gades.

LAST WEEK'S RESULTS Tuesday, January 7 @ South Carolina LOSS 6-4 GAME NOTES: The ‘Gades jumped out to a 2-0 lead but surrendered six straight goals. The Stingrays cashed in on four power plays. Dan Vandermeer had a shorthanded goal and two assists for the ‘Gades. Adam Calder had two goals and five assists for the Stingrays. Wednesday, January 8 vs. South Carolina WIN 4-2 GAME NOTES: The ‘Gades bounced back to snap a five game winless streak, led by a Lars Pettersen hat trick. The ‘Gades were 5-5 on the penalty kill and 2-7 on the power play. Brad Church and Peter Hogan had two assists.

Friday, January 10 @ Greensboro LOSS 7-2 GAME NOTES: The ‘Gades surrendered five straight goals and 48 shots on goal, allowing a season high seven goals against. Ole Kjenstead had a hat trick and Mark Turner tied a Generals club record with five points.

Saturday, January 11 vs. Atlantic City LOSS 4-0 GAME NOTES: The ‘Gades were blanked at home for the first time this season despite out-shooting the Bullies. Matt Yeats turned aside all 35 shots he faced and Carl Corazini scored two goals as the Bullies picked up their first win in Richmond in seven tries. Jim Henkel added a goal and two assists.

Sunday, January 12 @ Greenville WIN 5-0 GAME NOTES: The ‘Gades rebounded for their third shutout of the season. Marc Magliarditi stopped 32 shots. Lars Pettersen and Jon Zion equaled a club season high with four assists each. The ‘Gades were 2-4 on the power play and 7-7 on the penalty kill. Five ‘Gades scored goals.

‘GADES NOTES: The Renegades finished a stretch of five games in six nights and eight in 10 Sunday. Richmond picked up their third shutout and Marc Magliarditi's second in the win over Greenville Sunday. Magliarditi now has 124 career ECHL wins, seventh best in league history. Lars Pettersen and Jon Zion each equaled a club season high with four assists in the win over the Grrrowl. They also equaled a club season high for points in a game with four (Richard Pitirri had four assists vs. Augusta in November and David Brosseau had a four point night vs. Reading in November). Pettersen had the club's third hat trick of the season and his first in the win vs. South Carolina Wednesday. Pettersen equaled a club season high with a nine game scoring streak that ended Saturday. Dan Vandermeer had the club's first two "Gordie Howe Hat Trick's" of the season (goal, assist, fight) Tuesday vs. South Carolina and Sunday vs. Greenville. Zion twice returned from AHL call-ups last week. He has played in 12 games in three stints with Cincinnati. Jayme Filipowicz remains on re-call to St. John. Five ‘Gades have played in the AHL this season. Richmond wraps up a four game homestand Wednesday. Tyler Palmer picked up his first point as a Renegade with an assist at Greensboro Friday. Ian Turner scored his first pro goal Sunday vs. Greenville. Peter Hogan equaled a pro career high with his seventh goal (scored Sunday vs. Greenville). Nick Lent's three game scoring streak ended Saturday. The ‘Gades allowed a season high seven goals vs. Greensboro Friday. The ‘Gades have not allowed a power play goal in their last five wins. They have allowed 10 power play goals in their last four losses. Three of the ‘Gades last four wins have come by shutout. Richmond has lost their last three overtime/shootout decisions after winning their first seven. The ‘Gades were shutout at home for the first time this season in Saturday's loss to Atlantic City.
