Greensboro Generals News Release

UPCOMING WEEK: The Generals have three games this week, starting at home and finishing on the road before next week's All-Star Break. The Generals host the Roanoke Express this Wednesday night at 7:00. The game marks the first time all season the Generals' division Rival comes to town, and the first time in over two months they have faced each other at all. On Friday, Greensboro travels to face the Trenton Titans for a 7:05 face-off. Greensboro finishes the week at 7:05 on Saturday, visiting the Reading Royals in the last of six match-ups between the two clubs this year. All games this season can be heard on the Generals new flagship radio station, WPET AM-950. You can also hear the games online by logging on to www.greensborogenerals.com.

LAST WEEK: 1/9 CHARLOTTE 8, GREENSBORO 1 ¨ The Generals were in this game entering the third period, with a Mark Turner goal making the score late in the second period. However, the Checkers dominated the third, reeling off five unanswered goals to cruise to victory.

1/10 RICHMOND 2, GREENSBORO 7 ¨ Taking exception to the previous night's defeat, the Generals took out their frustration on the Renegades with an easy victory in front of a season-high crowd of 5,342. Greensboro sprung to a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Pete Gardiner and Ole Kjenstad. Following a Richmond goal in the second period, the Generals put the game away with three unanswered goals on a Sam Ftorek score and a pair of Kjenstad lamp-lighters to complete his second hat trick of the season. The lead swelled to 7-1 in the third on David Whitworth and Mark Turner scores. Turner finished the night with five points, while Kjenstad and Gardiner both notched four points a piece. Jamie Hodson made 33 saves to earn his eighth straight victory, a setting a franchise record.

1/11 PEORIA 5, GREENSBORO 2 ¨ Despite setting a season attendance record for the second straight night at 5,658, the Generals couldn't get the job done in the only meeting of the season against the Rivermen. Peoria took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the first period, but Pete Gardiner's power play goal and a Sam Ftorek tally with just 25 seconds left in the frame had the game knotted up at 2-2. Peoria took the lead for good midway through the second period, then added a pair of insurance goals in the third to seal the Generals' fate. Jamie Hodson had 43 saves on the night, but his eight game winning streak and ten game unbeaten streak was snapped.
