Week 14 Recap:

January 12, Providence 4, Manchester: Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins extended their home unbeaten streak to 11 games with a 4-2 Sunday afternoon victory over the Manchester Monarchs before a crowd of 7,190 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, RI. The Bruins, 9-0-2-0 in their last 11 home games, extended their North Division lead to four points over the Monarchs, who saw their two-game winning streak come to an end.

Lee Goren, who went scoreless with a minus-4 in the Bruins 5-3 loss at Portland on Saturday, earned himself and his teammates on the ice a plus when he scored the Bruins first goal just 2:34 into the contest. Goren jumped on a rebound left by Cristobal Huet moments after the Monarchs goaltender had fought off a Jarno Kultanen drive from the blue line. The goal was Goren's 16th this season.

Eric Healey's backhanded bid to tie the game five minutes later was snuffed out by goaltender Tim Thomas, who appeared to throw his stick at the puck on the play. Healey pleaded his case to referee Guy Pellerin, but to no avail. Thomas stood his ground later in the period during a lengthy Monarchs 5-on-3 power play attempt, and he denied the Monarchs on a 2-on-1 rush up the ice with six minutes left in the period, turning aside a Michael Cammalleri shot from close range. The Bruins veteran netminder finished with eight saves in the period and 26 for the game while improving his record against the Monarchs to 3-0-1 this season.

Rookie Martin Samuelsson stretched the Bruins lead to 2-0 by scoring his 18th goal just eight seconds into the middle period. Samuelsson slipped a backhander by the defenseless Huet after defenseman Rich Brennan located him for a breakaway near the Monarchs blue line seconds after the opening draw.

Pavel Rosa upped his goal-scoring streak to three games by registering the Monarchs first goal on the power play 11:01 into the middle period. Cammalleri extended his scoring streak to seven games with an assist on the play. Rosa's goal was his sixth in six games and 14th overall.

Ivan Huml's wrap-around score at 15:38 pushed the Bruins second period lead to 3-1. Matt Herr and Brennan received assists on Huml's third goal since being assigned to Providence by the NHL's Boston Bruins on January 6. Cammalleri's fifth goal with 5:10 left to go in the third period pulled the Monarchs back to within one, but Herr's empty net score with 17 seconds left effectively ended the Monarchs comeback hopes. Healey and Scott Barney earned assists on the Cammalleri score. Herr's 19th goal was unassisted.

January 10, Manchester 6, Springfield 1: Manchester, NH - The Manchester Monarchs made it two for two against the Springfield Falcons this season, easily disposing of the East Division cellar dwellers, 6-1, on Friday night before a sellout crowd of 9,893 fans at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The sellout was the fourth in a row for the AHL attendance leaders, and eighth overall. The Monarchs, who next play at Springfield on January 25, also cruised by the Falcons with a 6-1 victory at the Verizon Wireless Arena on October 23. Much like in the October tilt, the Monarchs distanced themselves from the Falcons with a four-goal period. In the October victory, the four goals were scored in the third period, breaking open a tight contest. The Monarchs, winners of two in a row and three of the last four, opened with a four-goal first period and never looked back.

Michael Cammalleri, Jared Aulin, and Jerred Smithson, each assigned by the Los Angeles Kings to the Monarchs on Thursday, chipped in with first period points. Cammalleri, who was with the Kings since November 7, assisted on the first two goals, power play tallies authored by Pavel Rosa at 2:25 and Eric Healey at 14:54. For Healey, it was his team-leading 15th goal. The gritty winger also leads the Monarchs with nine power play goals.

Smithson, back with the Monarchs after spending two weeks in L.A., fed linemate Chris Schmidt for the third Monarchs goal, collected at 18:07. Schmidt's goal total now stands at 11. Aulin, also back with the Monarchs for the first time in two weeks, registered his team-leading 22nd assist at 19:07 of the opening period, setting up Yanick Lehoux for his first of two goals on the night. Cammalleri, Aulin, Healey, and defensman Tomas Zizka each recorded two first period points.

Lehoux's second goal, a power play marker also set up by Aulin and Zizka, pushed the Monarchs lead to 5-0 7:44 into the middle period. The Falcons Frank Banham recorded his 10th goal at 16:49 of the second period to make it 5-1. Aulin's eighth goal closed the scoring at 2:02 of the third period. For the game, Zizka finished with four assists, and goaltender Travis Scott posted his 11th win while making 37 saves.

January 8, Manchester 4, Albany 3, OT: Albany, NY - The Manchester Monarchs needed an overtime goal from Eric Healey to defeat the Albany River Rats, 4-3, at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, NY on Wednesday night. Healey's team-leading 14th goal was scored with just 27 seconds left in the extra period. Pavel Rosa and defenseman Jason Holland assisted on the game-winning goal, Healey's third game-winner this season.

A questionable hooking call to Dan Riva late in the third period led directly to the River Rats third goal and the overtime session. With Riva in the box and goaltender Ari Ahonen replaced by an extra attacker, Jason Lehoux tied the game when he scooped up a loose puck in front of the Monarchs net with just 22 seconds left to play. Goaltender Cristobal Huet moments before had been tested by Michael Rupp, who stormed into the Monarchs zone down the left wing side. Rupp wristed a shot targeted for the top of the Monarchs net.

The Monarchs bolted out to a two-goal lead with first period scoring plays authored by Rosa and defenseman Chris Aldous. Rosa netted his 11th goal just 1:29 into the game, and Aldous followed with a power play tally three minutes later. The goal was Aldous' third this season.

Sandwiched in between the two Monarchs goals was an excellent stop by Huet. The Monarchs netminder spoiled a breakaway chance from Rupp 2:30 into the game.

Scott Cameron's power play goal 11:48 into the period put Albany on the scoreboard. The River Rats goal was scored with Monarchs captain Dane Jackson in the penalty box for high sticking

Rosa gave the Monarchs their second two-goal lead of the game when he deflected defenseman Joe Rullier's slap shot past Ahonen just 1:03 into the second period.

Rullier, who had missed the previous three games because of an injury, knocked down an Albany clearing attempt, pivoted at the point, and fired the puck in the direction of Rosa. Rosa did the rest by scoring his 12th goal overall and second goal of the game.

The River Rats came to life early third period after a hooking penalty was assessed to Monarchs defenseman Richard Seeley. Defenseman Mikko Jokela blasted away from the point to collect his sixth goal at 4:48 of the period. The goal was scored just seconds after Seeley was freed from the box. Seeley, like Rullier returned to the Monarchs lineup Wednesday after missing seven consecutive games because of an injury.
