Baton Rouge Kingfish News Release

One More: Kingfish centerman Bryan Richardson needs just one goal to reach the 100- goal plateau in his career as a Baton Rouge Kingfish. Richardson still sits on 99 goals as a Kingfish after only one game this past weekend. Despite not picking up a point in regulation, the centerman tallied the decisive goal in the shootout in the Kingfish's only game this past weekend, a 4-3 shootout win over Toledo.

For the Record: Richardson is closing in on the Kingfish record for most goals scored in a Baton Rouge uniform. Kingfish coach Cam Brown holds the current record for most goals as a Kingfish with 103 goals. Richardson is 4 goals shy of that mark and is on a pace to score 34 goals this season. If Richardson keeps to that pace, he would set a new Kingfish single season mark for goals eclipsing a record he shares with Jon Sturgis (99/00) and Luke Curtin (99/00) with 32 goals in a season.

Almost Perfect: Kingfish netminder Niklas Sundberg is unbeaten in four starts since being assigned to the Kingfish. He started out slow with a 3-2, shootout loss to the IceGators in his first outing in Baton Rouge, but has been perfect since that time. He is 3-0-1 and has posted a 3.12 goals against average and a .900 save percentage with the Kingfish.

Breaking out: Kingfish newcomer Mike Oliveira finally broke his scoring slump in Friday's 4-3, shootout win over Toledo. Oliveira tallied his first goal since December 13th and his first with the Kingfish. Since being acquired from the Augusta Lynx, Oliveira had hit the post numerous times and had fired over 24 shots in his first four games with the Kingfish.

Power Play Improvement: The kingfish tallied two power play goals in Friday's 4-3 shootout win over Toledo and had two extra man goals in last Sunday's 4-3 win over Pensacola. The Kingfish are currently in 16th place, successful on 17.1 % of their power play opportunities.

Northwest success: The Kingfish improved to 3-1-1 on the season against the Northwest division with Friday's 4-3, shootout win over the Toledo Storm. The Kingfish face the Northwest division just one more time this season when the Peoria Rivermen visit the Centroplex on February 8th.

Last Week's Games: 1-0-0, 2 pts.

January 10th, Kingfish 4, Toledo 3 (SOW)

The Kingfish used 43 saves from Niklas Sundberg and came from behind to down the Toledo Storm in a shootout. The teams exchanged goals all game long, but Bryan Richardson's shootout goal was the difference in round four. Toledo got on the board first at the 3:18 mark of the second as Wes Mason beat Sundberg. The Kingfish answered five minutes later as Mike Oliveira put home a power play goal to tie the game at one. Toledo regained the lead as Mike Read's dump-in took a weird bounce and careened off the dasher and past Sundberg for the 2-1 Storm lead. The Kingfish battled back and tied the game before the intermission as Marquis Mathieu's power play goal at the 15:20 mark tied the game at two. Toledo jumped out to an early 3-2 lead 1:32 into the third period on a power play goal by Matt Ellis. Sam Paquet tied the game up at three at the 6:41 mark of the third on a wrap-around. Both teams scored in the first round of the shootout, but Bryan Richardson's goal in round four was the difference.
