Augusta Lynx News Release


The Lynx improved their record to 13-23-2 with two road losses and two home wins over the weekend. The Lynx remain in seventh place in the Southeast Division with twenty-eight points, seven behind Columbus and Greenville. Augusta is unbeaten in regulation in the past six games at home.

The Lynx lost 3-2 Tuesday, January 7 in Pee Dee. This was the fourth loss for the Lynx in Florence this season. Augusta trailed the entire game, until the final four minutes when a come back was in the making with Lynx goals scored by Brad Ralph and Jim Shepherd, both their second against Pee Dee. Martin Lapointe, Shepherd, and Ryan Lauzon all garnered assists. Augusta traveled to Charlotte Friday, January 10 for a rematch with the Checkers following the shoot out loss in Augusta the previous weekend. The Lynx led the game 3-2 until two Checkers goals mid-way through the third period secured the win for Charlotte. The goals were scored seven seconds apart, setting a new record for quickest back-to-back goals for both clubs. Andrew Williamson tallied two goals and Ralph also found the back of the net. Augusta hosted the Florida Everblades Saturday, January 11 winning by a score of 5-1. Lynx power forward Jason Shmyr and captain Ralph each had two goals. Ralph also had two assists. Josh St. Louis also got on the board with a goal and an assist. The Lynx continued the winning on Sunday, January 12 beating the Everblades by a score of 9-5. Florida took the early lead with three goals, but the Lynx fought back to even the score going into the first intermission. The Lynx scored six goals in the second period, securing the win. Eleven different Lynx players got on the score sheet, with Williamson and Mike Legg leading the way with five points.

The Lynx travel to Columbia on Thursday, January 16 for the sixth time this season. The Lynx have yet to win at the Carolina Coliseum this season. The power play has plagued the Lynx as they are 0-19 on the power play while the Inferno is 5-26. Columbia has outscored Augusta 20-12 this season. St. Louis leads the Lynx in goals against Columbia with four. Justin Morrison and Chris Pittman lead for the Inferno with five goals. The Lynx have 133 penalty minutes against the Inferno, with Lance Galbraith leading the way with twenty-three minutes. The Pensacola Ice Pilots travel to Augusta Friday, January 17 for the second and final meeting of the season. The Lynx lost to the Ice Pilots 4-1 in their last meeting in November. Brumby has not face Pensacola this season. Augusta is 1-5 on the power play while Pensacola is 0-4. Jonathon Gauthier has the lone goal for the Lynx. The Lynx travel to Charlotte Saturday, January 18 for the fourth and final meeting between the two teams. Charlotte leads the series 3-0. The Checkers have outscored the Lynx 13-9 this season. Lauzon and Ralph each have three points against the Checkers. Checkers David Inman has three power play goals against the Lynx. Charlotte has five power play goals in eighteen opportunities compared to Augusta's two in twenty-two tries.

Stat of the Week: After this week, three Lynx players have surpassed their career high goal output. Leach has four goals in thirty-eight games, previously three in seventy games. Ralph has nine in thirty-three games, previously he had five in fifty. Lauzon has nine in thirty-seven games, previously seven in fifty-eight.

Thursday, January 16: The Lynx travel to the Carolina Coliseum to take on the Columbia Inferno. Game time is 7:05 pm. "The Locker Room Report" airs at 8:30 pm on Comcast Channel 4.

Friday, January 17: The Lynx host the Pensacola Ice Pilots at 7:35 pm at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

Saturday, January 18: The Charlotte Checkers host the Lynx at Cricket Arena. Game time is 7:35 pm.
