TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The ninth and final meeting of the season and the fourth and final in Richmond. The ‘Gades are 2-4-2 vs. the Checkers, 2-1 at home. Richmond is winless in their last five games vs. Charlotte. Lars Pettersen has seven points vs. the Checkers. Three Checkers have nine vs. Richmond. Richmond is sixth in the Northeast Division, four points ahead of Reading. Charlotte is fourth in the Northeast, one point ahead of Trenton and one behind Roanoke. The Checkers can clench a playoff spot tonight with a win or a Trenton loss. Charlotte is 11-2-1 in their last 14 games. They are tied for third in the ECHL in goals per game. Checkers defenseman Kurt Seher is a member of the ECHL's 15th Anniversary All Star Team.

LAST ACTION: The ‘Gades lost 5-2 at Roanoke last night. The Express scored in the first minute and led all the way. Joe Dusbabek had a goal and two assists for the Express. Jon Zion and Sandy Lamarre scored the Renegades goals. The loss ended a four game ‘Gades road winning streak, equaling the longest of the season. The Checkers lost 4-3 at Greensboro last night. The Generals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one. The Checkers rallied for three straight goals to move in front in the second period. But Greensboro tied the game in the final minute of the second period and scored the game-winner early in the third. Kevin Caulfield scored twice for the Checkers. Charlotte out-shot Greensboro 47-35.

‘GADES NOTES: ECHL All Rookie and second team All Star defenseman Jon Zion was called up to Portland of the AHL following last night's game. It is Zion's third AHL call-up this season. 12 ‘Gades have earned call-ups this season. Zion joins Leon Hayward (who made his AHL debut with Manchester last night), Daniel Goneau, Jayme Filipowicz, and Garret Stroshien currently away on call-ups. The ‘Gades re-signed Bryan McKinney this morning. He played in two games with Richmond earlier this season. The ‘Gades finished their season-long nine game road trip with a 4-3-2 record. The ‘Gades have won four of their last five games. Richmond is 9-3-2 in their last 14 games. The ‘Gades have won seven straight home games by a combined score of 32-13. The club record for consecutive home wins is eight during the ‘92-'93 season. The ‘Gades 24 home wins is the third highest total in club history with two home games remaining (the club record is 27 in ‘95-'96; Richmond won 25 home games in ‘94-'95, and 24 in ‘98-'99). Magliarditi has moved past Jeff Salajko into sixth place on the ECHL career wins list with 133. His next target is ex-Renegades goaltendter Sandy Allan who is fifth with 137. The ‘Gades have lost their last five overtime/shootouts after winning their first seven. The ‘Gades play four games in five nights this week to close the regular season. Josh Harrold is out for the season with a broken orbital bone. Nick Lent is out following surgery last week. The ‘Gades have clenched a fifth straight .500-plus season.

NEXT UP: The ‘Gades host Roanoke here at 5:05 PM (4:50 WXGI, internet only coverage after 6 PM due to prior programming commitment) tomorrow to conclude the 2002-'03 season. The Checkers regular season ends tonight.
