
Rays Set First Round Dates Vs Pride

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC The South Carolina Stingrays will have home ice when they take on the Pee Dee Pride, in a best of five series, in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Stingrays secured second place in the Southeast and home ice advantage in the first round with a win over the Augusta Lynx last night. The Rays will open up the post season with a home game on Wednesday, April 2nd.
"Having home ice in the first round was one of our goals heading into the season," noted Head Coach Jason Fitzsimmons. "You need any kind of advantage you can get when you have a tough opponent like the Pride.

The Stingrays have a record of 6-1-1 against Pee Dee this season, with one game remaining in the series tonight at the Coliseum. This will mark the third time that these two teams have met in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Each team has won one five game series against the other. Each team has a 5-5 all-time playoff record against the other. In 1998, Pee Dee won game five of the Southern Conference Quarterfinals, against the Stingrays, in Charleston. In 2000, South Carolina won game five of the Southern Conference Quarterfinals, against the Pride, in Florence.
The Stingrays have won the Kelly Cup twice in nine seasons. The team's first title was in 1997, while the second Cup came in 2001.
The Stingrays host the Pride tonight at 7:30 to close out the regular season. The team has record of 41-22-8 on the season with 19 wins coming at home and 22 wins (ties franchise record) on the road.
