Grrrowl Secure Playoff Invitation with 7-3 Win over Augusta

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl secured a playoff invitation with a 7-3 win over the Augusta Lynx in front of 8,199 at the BI-LO Center Saturday night. The Grrrowl will travel to TECO Arena to face the Florida Everblades in a one-game playoff next Tuesday at 7:30 PM.

The Grrrowl opened a 1-0 lead at 16:06 of the first period when rookie PETER FLACHE scored a powerplay goal, which was also his first professional marker. Greenville blew open a 5-goal lead with 4 goals in the short span of 3:41 in period two. CHRIS WISMER (0:53), PETER FLACHE (2:20), MIKE HENDERSON (3:09), and CHAD THEUER (4:34) scored goals to give the Grrrowl their biggest lead, 5-0. Lynx starting goaltender Tom Draper was pulled after allowing the first 3 goals on 12 shots. Curtis Cruickshank allowed 2 goals on the first two shots he faced, and the Grrrowl led 5-0 after 40 minutes.

The Grrrowl added third period goals from CHRIS LYNCH (12:16) and MIKE HENDERSON (14:49), while the Lynx broke MICHAEL GARNETT'S shutout bid with a powerplay goal by Jeff Szwez at 11:09. PETER FLACHE (2-1-3 pts.), PAUL FLACHE (0-2-2 pts.) and MIKE HENDERSON (2-1-3 pts.) were named the three stars of the game. Augusta outshot Greenville, 41-24.

The Greenville Grrrowl end the regular season at home tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 3:05 PM against the Greensboro Generals (Newsradio 1330 & 950, WORD).
