Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Jamie Cooke scored twice, including the 300th goal of his professional career, as the Bakersfield Condors defeated the Anchorage Aces 3-1 in front of 6,802 fans at Centennial Garden on Friday night.
Goaltender Kevin St. Pierre played well, keeping the game tight as Bakersfield came out slow. The Condors opened the scoring despite being outshot 8-1 at an early point in the game, with Cooke netting his 29th of the season at 14:19 of the first period. It was the 300th of his career, as he buried a perfect centering feed from J.J. Wrobel.
Cooke extended the lead in the second period, reaching the 30-goal plateau for the second time as a Condor and third time of his career. Wrobel added his second assist of the game, as the goal came at the 4:31 mark. Later in the period, while on the power play, Wrobel got into the goal column with his 11th of the season. He tipped in a shot that actually deflected twice before slipping past Aces netminder Christian Soucy for the 3-0 lead. The Condors pounded 16 shots on goal in the period.
In the third period, Yvan Corbin finally put Anchorage on the board when he slammed a rebound past St. Pierre for his league-leading 45th goal of the season. The Aces and Condors both put nine third period shots on the board, but the Condors took the 3-1 win. Bakersfield held Anchorage scoreless on seven power plays for the evening, while the Condors scored once on their two chances. Bakersfield finished the season 6-4-4 against the Aces.
The Condors kept pace with San Diego, who defeated Idaho tonight 3-1 to remain two points ahead of the Condors in the race for second place.
