'Gades Hayward Earns AHL Call-Up

March 28, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Richmond Renegades News Release

Richmond, VA – Richmond Renegades rookie forward Leon Hayward has been called up to Manchester of the AHL. Hayward is scheduled to make his AHL debut this weekend. Hayward has 12 goals and 25 points in 67 games.

Hayward became a fan favorite with his hustling, hard-nosed style of play. The first year pro from Northeastern was voted Most Improved Offensive Player by his teammates and Favorite Offensive Player by the ‘Gades Booster Club.

Hayward attended camp with the Monarchs and scored one goal in preseason play. He is the 12th ‘Gade to earn a call-up this season and will be the fourth player called up from Richmond on a current AHL roster (joining Daniel Goneau with Lowell, Jayme Filipowicz with St. John, and Garret Stroshein with Portland).

Richmond ends a nine game road trip tonight at Roanoke (7:20 WXGI). The Renegades have two home games left this season: Saturday, March 29 vs. Charlotte at 7:35, and Sunday, March 30 vs. Roanoke at 5:05. For more information please call the ‘Gades office at 643-7825.
